Thinking of buying the bk2 sheath from chestnut ridge knife shop. Anyone have one? Is it easier to get the knife out of the sheath than the factory one?

I don't know about the Chestnut version, but if you take out the rivet just below where the blade enters the factory sheath, it is just about perfect for retention. Easily pulls out 1 handed, still has a nice definite click when re-sheathing.

I pulled mine out with a pair of needle nose pliers in about 30 seconds.

I broke mine. It was for a BK 9 though. I broke the two black aluminum screws/ nuts, hardware while getting back into my rig. See it snagged on my seat and my girthiness pooped those two aluminum rivet/screws right off.

I own the CRKS BK2 package. I did not get the grivory scales, but did get the original sheath. My black micarta scales are flat, not contoured. So, my BK2 rattles around inside the orginal sheath, but fits snug in the Chestnut Ridge sheath.
If I were you, I'd e-mail Tom over at Chestnut, ask him how well "your" knife will fit into their sheath.
I'll also point out that my BK2 fits quite well in the Armorall leather sheath for the ESEE5. It is tight, but fits better than the ESEE5. Two wolves outdoors has that sheath, look in the ESEE section.

Heres mine.
Sheath was also tight. So I took a hair dryer to it and when it was warm I pulled the knife out a little, 1/4 inch and let cool.

What you did is strip the plastic threads on the nut that holds the belt loop on, I have the crks sheath for a Rat 5 and it fits like a dream. I can run with it inverted with no worry of losing the knife but I can still draw with one hand.

I have them for my BK7 and BK14 they are my favorite sheaths. Outstanding product and great customer service. They did my sheath for my BK14 with the ESEE scales even though they don't have it on their website, and they didn't charge me extra for the special request.

Check out Marion Poff for top shelf custom kydex with your choice of colors, attachments, firesteel holders, etc.

Cooincidentally, I have been talking to him as he is making me a bushcraft sheath for a Mora. I asked for a quote on a BK9 (which I think is about $10 more than a BK2, but you better check with him) and got this email tonight:

A Black Kydex Sheath for the BK 9 is $50. And, for a little more, I
can make it out of one of the following colors... OD Green, Coyote
Brown, Earth Brown, Gray, Desert Tan, Blood Red, Bright Red, Blue,
Pink and Blaze Orange, Carbon Fiber, Desert Digital Camo, Urban
Digital Camo, and Forest Digital Camo.

Belt Clips are additional. My favorite for most purposes, with a
lightweight knives, the Spyderco G-clip will clip on waistbands for
IWB carry, tops of pockets, and will fit belts up to 1.75 inches, $10.
The Tek Lok latches on belts, up to 2.25 inches for the Large, and up
to 1.5 inches for the Small, $15. I also stock the BladeTech Klip,
Molle Loks (Large and Small), and IWB Straps. If you need help
deciding which attachment style you want, I can suggest one if you
tell me how the knife will be carried.

I also offer...

FireSteel/FireStarter Loops/Sheaths, standard with durable BT Style
mounting hardware, $15. Includes a Bungee, a Split Ring and 2
Zip-Ties to make an elastic Leash to hold your FireSteel/FireStarter
in it's Loop/Sheath. I have the Light My Fire Sweden FireSteels
(Army, Scout, and Mini) (The ProForce FireSteels, Army and Scout are
the same size as the LMF Army and Scout) (The Kershaw 1019 FireSteel
and the County Comm FS104 are the same as the LMF Scout), the ESEE
Fire Kit, the Coghlan's Flint Striker and Magnesium FireStarter, and
the Primus FireSteels (Large and Medium).
--->>> Please note - Many of the different Ferro Rod and FireSteel
products use standard rod sizes, so I can fit many different products,
and I am regularly adding new sizes. Just let me know which one you
have.

Sharpener Loops and Sheaths. Currently I just have the Eze Lap M
Diamond Rod, but I am adding others.

If I can answer any other questions, please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Marion

Upon further examination, it's an 8-32 steel screw with a thin aluminum nut and a rubber washer sandwiched in there holding that kydex together. It's the aluminum nut I broke, should be real easy to fix. Lost a rubber washer too, it's around here someplace, again easily fixed.

I didn't realize it was aluminum, it feels so thin and plasticky. Ill fix it, send it to me ;):D
