I am sharing a couple photos of a new folder. It is a Kabar Trapper in American Chestnut.

I've only taken photos as this is not for me. I bought it as a gift for my Grandfather. He told me, a few different times, of when he was a boy, he remembers the blight that destroyed all the American Chestnut trees. He grew up in West Virginia and recalls looking at the mountains and seeing trees dying, as far as the eye can see. His favorite knife pattern, and the only kind I remember him carrying, is a Trapper. So, this version is perfect for many reasons.

Kabar and Canal Street grabbed some reclaimed chestnut and made these. They did a fine job with these. No brass used on this version. Stainless liners and nickel boosters and pins. Classic looking pocket knife.

Enjoy!

That's stainless liners on that one, nickel silver bolsters and pins, looks nice!! What a great gift for your grandfather, I've heard and read stories myself of those trees, it was a real catastrophe. Folks said that the mountains were white as snow in the spring when the chestnut blossoms were in bloom, must have been quite a sight!

That's the best looking trapper I've seen in a while. It looks like everything fits just right and the steel liners look outstanding. If my grandad was still around I know he'd have loved one too.

Excellent thought put into this present. You grandfather will be very happy. Nice job son.

Thanks guys!

I intend to give it to him the next time I see him.

About the knife, fit and finish is nice. Light pull (but not overly light) on both blades, typical for Canal Street. Wood grain really shows on the scales. Personally, I like the Dog's head shield better than the CS version and that was the deciding factor between the two. It came fairly sharp but not shaving sharp. Lastly, I could live with marketing material from Kabar that was in the box, which primarily relates to their tactical offerings. I plan on printing a summary of the Chestnut reclamation used in making the knives, available on the Internet, and include with it.

A nice gift to your grandpa! I´m sure he´d like it. The scales are looking great. Thanks for sharing this great knife and gift to your grandpa. :)

I have the rams horn version and it's the nicest production slippy to pass through my hands yet! Great story and I think your grand pa will really like this one!

Say jurisprudence, drop me an email, I should be able to get you a copy of the summary that's included with the CS versions of the chestnut handled knives:

Peter, I really liked the rams horn version. If I were buying for myself, that is the one I would have picked.

Eric, email sent. Many thanks.
