Well, this is a little different, but maybe it's just me who hasn't heard of these before. So, my wife is a bit of a health food nut. Our refridgerator holds some pretty odd things, but most have been labeled "super food" by some famous doctor or another. I have to admit, she's converted me for the most part. OK, the subject at hand is Chia Seeds: http://www.goinggreen-gettinghealthy.com/chia-seeds.html These little critters seem very interesting. As I read about them (I'm often dragged to the computer to read about these sorts of things or watch a Dr. Oz video
) I realized they might be useful for the outdoorsman. It seems they have been used by the tribe in Southern Mexico who run everywhere. I mean these guys literally are the best runners in the world. The Chia seeds give them a lightweight and very nutritious food source which they claim also gives them energy. You can add them to food like oatmeal, or just soak them in water, of which they absorb 10X their weight. They say the seeds help in staying hydrated if soaked prior to consumption. The Aztecs were reported to have harvested them for their food use and medicinal purposes, such as anti-inflammitory properties. The article states Aztec warriors supposedly needed only a spoonfull for 24 hours. Well, it's not as tasty as Spam, but could be useful. Imagine having a full belly and energy all day for the price of a small baggy of seeds and a bottle of water? The anti-inflamitory part won't hurt most of use who aren't as young as we used to be either! I'm sure I'll be eating plenty whether I want to or not
Take care guys.
