As promised, I've taken the time to show you folks all of the fine knives which I had the priviledge of shooting. I loaded them all as clickable thumbnails to a nicely detailed larger web photo for dial-up's sake.

There is a story about each and every one of them, but for the time being I will simply let the photos speak the language of appraisal. Feel free to ask questions on anything that you find especially intesting. (Makers: feel free to correct me and to add in your own comments! :)

Here were the Best in Show award knives:

Joe Kious - 'Best in Show'
Don Hanson 'Best Fixed Blade'
Kaj Embretsen - 'Best Folding Knife'
Jody Muller - 'Best Tactical Knife'
Ken Steigerwalt - 'Judges Merit Award'

More to follow in the next post....

That's it. This was a LOT of work for me to complete in two weeks, especially since the editing and printing, etc. was fitted in-between my other full-time job. (Ask my wife....)

I know you'll enjoy them. The images are nice and colorful, I know. More importantly, please let the makers know what you think about THEIR work!

Wow, Coop...for those of us who could not be there, this is just great! Thanks for sharing your great images from the show.

Don, congratulations on the best fixed blade award. That S-guard fighter is something else!!!

Congratulations to all the other winners and makers whose images Coop has posted. The Chicago show is really turning into a good one.

This thread could cause a person to want to start collecting knives.:D

I have two words for those knives and the photos:
AWE SOME!!

WOW WOW WOW ............ what an incredible line up. Thanks Coop.

To Don Hanson: You are turning out some of the most original and visually appealing fixed blades have I seen for quite some time. I really need to talk to you :D

Ken Steigerwalts folders always impress and the ones here are top drawer.

Jody Mullers tactical is a delight, and its great to see Montejano's work done justice with an image.

I'd like to know a bit more about Thad Buchanan.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Good eye. Thad Buchanan won 'Best fixed blade' at Blade West a week later with THAT hunter.

Thank you all!

Coop

Coop,
Those of us still on dial-up really appreciate you taking us into consideration. :)
Congrats to Don on Best Fixed Blade, that Damascus and Stag guardless integral that isn't an integral blows me away,he does stag like very few others and where he gets his stunning Ivory's is anybody's guess.

As far as your pics go.One word.
THANKS! :D

Doug

Thanks for the hard work Coop, it shows in the images.

Chicago was good fun and a good show for me, I'll be there next year for sure.

Thanks to all :D

Wow, what a treat! I'll be back once I have had time to give each of these images the attention they so richly deserve, but I did want to say a quick thanks for sharing them.

And the three Hanson pieces just about define elegance in a large fixed blade. Don, you so rock!

Roger

WOW!! Those pix and knives are incredible! A feast for the eyes!! THANK YOU so much!!

Great thread, thanks Coop. To me, this is better than Blade or Knives Illustrated.

Anyway, my fav are the 2 Steigerwalts. Don Hanson's ivory bowie ain't too shabby either.

I picked my way through each one.

:D. Incredible shots of some incredible work.

Too much drool over Don's bowie. I like everything about that knife. Embretson's 8 bladed knife is jaw-dropping to me and Steigerwalt's knife is one of the greatest folder designs I have seen in a while. Coop your pics really show these knives off to the extreme.

Jim:
Great photos-I should have purchased Hansons knife. It was one of the highlights of the show.

I guess that I'm a little confused about the Fabbri design knives- isn't the knifemaker Kressler?

I knew you would enjoy these in your leisure...!

Gus, I am especially pleased that you like them. Not that you are a hard critic, but just that they made you smile! :)

I guess that I'm a little confused about the Fabbri design knives- isn't the knifemaker Kressler?
So was I. I emailed Tullio Fabbri about this: "Dietmar works with Fabbri Design in the knife project. We are working together to apply new technologies to knifemaking."

There you have it.
