Since I get so much information from you folks just reading the forums I figured this is the best place to get answers. I picked up a Chicago cutlery boning knife for a buck at the thrift store. In pretty good shape, bit of the tip broken and someone who should never be allowed near either sharpeners, knives or both got near this one but I'm thinking it might be worth reworking for a kitchen boning knife until I can afford the one I want. If anything was ever stamped on the blade it's long gone. I've found a couple on ebay and both sellers say this is from the 70s which if true I think it's worth the elbow grease and grit to fix it up for use but I would rather confirm that it's not China junk before I spend the time and money to refurbish it. Anyone know anything about this knife?

in my eyes, any knife i find i tend to wanna fix up and use. no matter how crappy. it just doesn't feel right to me to leave them to rot. =D

Im with Franz. Especially kitchen knives begs to get fixed up and used, plus it dont really cost any money, does it?

lol
You are both right, I'm going to do it no matter what I hear, wouldn't have bought it otherwise. Guess trying to dig up info is part of the fun. I think it's going to turn into a pretty decent work knife though.

I have had 2 chicago cutlery boning knives. Lost my first one at a cook out. They hold a decent edge and can take one too. I have thought of making a sheath for mine to take deer hunting or camping for food prep. I have used it to process deer and again worked like any other sharp knife. Also now that I think of it my first stitches are from lopping my thumb open with my first CC boning knife while packing up to move out of my first apt. Thats alot of first's. Got me good top of my thumb just sorta fell open. Memories.
