Need your help folks - My Dad's favorite knives were bought years ago from Chicago Cutlery.

All but one that he had has gone the way of the Dinosaur.
I understand they were bought out - would anyone know where I can find some, or if they are now being sold under a different name?????

Would like to surprise him by finding some ;)

Many thanks,

sp

I don't know if they still market a slipjoint. Their kitchen knives are now imported from China, and by all accounts are not the same quality as the old USA-made knives.

I've also been told that Chicago Cutlery didn't actually make their knives; they were contract-made by LamsonSharp.

You can usually find plenty of the USA-made Chicago Cutlery knives on eBay, but it's not always apparent which are USA and which are imported. I'm actually a big fan of the Chicago Cutlery kitchen knives made from "high carbon stainless steel". Full tangs, natural wood handles, and thick durable blades that are easy to get razor sharp. I have some in the kitchen, and some designated for shop use.

Barr,
I started collecting these yrs.ago...I even called Chicago Cutlery to see if they had any hidden somewhere.Funny, the guy had to put me on hold,he said they never made them, came back & apologized ,said they did long ago & he had never seen one!The first ones were made by Chicago Cutlery...later ones were not. They are really hard to find,I still look but outside of mine I haven't seen any in yrs.Found most of them at gun shows!
Good Luck,
Jim

Thanks for the info.

I guess a better question might be for those that have had the Older Chicago Slip joints, then you know how wonderfully soft the steel was (mega easy to work) - who would be the most comparable manufacturer that I should check with to find a similar type slippie?

I have a Chicago cutlery stockman and two larger folders that have the liner style lock and a buck style lockback. They have walnut handles like the older kitchen knives. They are good knives and I only use the stockman and keep the others for my collection. I bought them at various hardware stores over 15 years ago.
