Isn't there ususally a knife show in Oak Park around Labor Day weekend? Anyone know if it's scheduled this year, & where?
Thanks!

AECA
9401 s. Oakpark Ave.
Oaklawn, IL
708-857-2420 - Oaklawn Pavillion
Sept. 13,14 & 15th - confirmed with both aeca & the Oaklawn Pavillion, the reason I mention this is that the blade magazine sept 2002 has the wrong date listed!!!

I can't wait !!!
It's my favorite show of the year (locally)
Lots of factory & some handmade knives.

I hope this helps.

I'll be there. Should be there both Sat and Sunday, but not Friday. I may have enough money squirreled away for one decent knife, but will have a carry bag full of trading/show & tell stuff. Let's all meet up somewhere.

You'll get to say howdy to Mongo! I like that: Danbo-Mambo-Mongo... it's like poetry. I definately plan on being there Sat. and maybe Sun. This will be my second show ever, and I am looking forward to seeing all the sharp pointies and hopefully meeting some BFC-er's.
Let's make some arrangements to have a burger n' beer somewhere.

"Chili cook-off! Chili cook-off! Chili cook-off!"

Thanks for the info, guys! :D

I'll be there Saturday, mostly to gawk, but I'll bring some trading stuff as well & maybe a few bucks. Should we wear matching T-shirts? Or a carnation in the lapel?

Maybe we can post pictures of ourselves here, so that we can know who to look for? Then, arrange a time and place to meet?

Will definetly be there. Probably Saturday. My wife might be going out of town on business that whole weekend so I guess I have nothing to do.
Lets see...wife out of town the same weekend there is a knife show in area....hmm...what to do , what to do ?

SKYBOX!!!!! Yeah, that would get ya in the shiiter with the wife if she found out! I think my wife will be out of town too! Might just be a good weekend!

My wife will be with me in Chicago, but will drop me off at the show and be on her merry little way. All I have to do is have dinner with her each night and maybe some obligatory sex acts, and I'm home free!

Mongo...my relationship with my wife is such that going to the knife show would not "put me in the shitter" but I believe that the less information one gives the old B&C , the better. In other words it is on a "need to know" basis. I am not one to hide stuff form my wife.....HOLD ON ! I HEAR HER WALKING UP THE STAIRS...MUST HIT ESCAPE KEY !!

I was referring to the Skybox... supposedly Chicago areas finest Gentleman's club. Haven't been there yet. I don't think the wifey would like that too much, but I think she knows I'd rather spend my money on sharp pointies than tuckin' a buck.
Man, I can't wait for this show. Hopefully they will have some name-tags or something. Maybe I'll pop for some and leave them at the sign in desk so us BFC-er's can find one another.
See ya all Saturday
Mongo

You mentioned that you will be bringing some stuff to trade.... How does this work? Informally, as in hey, I'll trade you my sharp pointy for yours? I'm looking to trade/sell my CS Carbon-V Trailmaster with a blade tech kydex sheath. But if it is a faux-pas to bring knives to a show with commerce in mind, then I will put it up over on the to sell side of BFC. If anybody can help me with advice on doing this, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, Mongo

In the past I've carried a bunch of knives in a bag, and if I see soemthing I like at a table I'll ask the dealer if he's interested in trades. It seldom works, but sometimes. This year I only have a couple FB's to trade so maybe I'll wear 'em on my belt with stickies saying "trade me" attached. I guess the only point of etiquette is that if a non-dealer expresses interest, you take the negotiations away from the tables so you don't mess with a vendor's business.

I'd liek to go Fri Nite, but I wonder if a bunch of vendors won't show up until Saturday? I'd hate to miss good stuff by going early. But if you don't go early you can miss good stuff that's been sold already. What do you guys think?

Like mentioned above, if you are going to trade, do it away from other people's tables. I always bring a bag of some kind of knives, and usually trade something with somebody, and nobody has ever mentioned that it was wrong.

I'll have a table there. Trading is easy, just ask the guy behind the table if they will consider a trade. Most dealers/collectors will at least consider your wares and entertain offers. Worst they can do is say 'no thanks.' Danbo has a good point about taking your 'customer to customer' trades away from dealer/collector tables. Not very polite to trade or sell on top of a guys table that cost him $80! Speaking of table manners, do not interrupt or step on a potential deal in progress...BAAAAAD manners....See you there Danbo and all BF dudes. (I always display a blade forum logo on my table or display case)
