It's been a while since I've posted so I hate to make this my first post in a while but here we go...

I purchased 7 knives for groomsman for my upcoming wedding. I decided on Spyderco because they consistently have fantastic QC and it's a knife company that I personally love.

I ordered 5 Ladybugs (various colors and steels) and they were fantastic. I also ordered 2 Chicago's. I wanted to keep all the knives at 2 inches or less for legal carry for practically anywhere they might go/travel and I just think small knives get carried more. And boy was I disappointed in those Chicago's.

I've had sharp Spydie holes before. I've smoothed them out myself before. No big deal. They weren't dangerous, just didn't like the feel. But this wasn't a sharp Spydie hole. This was a stamped out hole that just never got reground. This thing had a burr on it that protruded to a sharp point that I only realized after the thing cut me. I was annoyed but figured hey, it happens. I checked out the other one after losing 12 pints of blood (possibly a small exaggeration [emoji6]) and guess what? Same thing. I called up the dealer who I ordered from and he checked out his remaining stock to find out all of his had the same issue. Are we not checking blades out of Taiwan fellas?

I'm really glad I checked them over before I gave them away. That would have been a bummer. I'm especially glad that my dealer happily took the return and made it a painless process (minus the cut).

So if you're in the market for one of these, I'm thinking a bad batch got out and you made need to check them over. And Spyderco, I still love yah. But I'm a little annoyed.

Chicago and Cat are budget folders made in Taiwan but NOT in the Taichung, Taiwan factory where the highest quality Spydercos are made.

Completely understand that. But I've ordered their China made budget knives before and they never experienced this issue or anything of the like. Being "budget" doesn't = complete lack of QC.

That's unfair. Not a complete lack of QC. But I can handle stripped screws, a lot of blade play, off center, sharp holes, etc... This was a surprise.

That is disappointing. I am sure Sal would like to know about this. Normally, these are great little knives.

I have one too.

I'm completely opposite. Stripped screws, blade play , etc. are exactly what I can't handle. Efforts made to keep costs down in areas like the Spyder hole are a bit less important to me and IF it bothered me a couple turns of a dowel wrapped in sandpaper would fix it. I agree with the concept of saving money in less important areas.

Mine sure didn't draw blood or come close and it looks much like yours. I never felt the need to change it.

The wedding stressing you out?

Haha. Absolutely!

Mine sure did. :)

The wedding was the worst. Part of that was the bachelor party the night before making me less than well rested. I kept telling myself to let the bride have her day. I ended up wanting to beat up some guests. I came out with a better understanding of the shenanigans I saw at wedding receptions I've been to where whole wedding parties were fighting. :D The guys that clamped a real ball and chain to my leg then giving the key to my wife came close to a well deserved beating when they started telling my wife to make me beg. She couldn't help but notice that it wasn't the right time to do that to me. ;)

The honeymoon was a lot better. Yeah, It was worth it but it was one of the longest days of my life. :)

Good fortune Spykers!

I agree. Edges on a Spyderhole that some may consider "extra crispy" are one thing, burrs that can break skin are another since not all of us flick our knives open. I suspect that, rather than being "stamped out", the Spyderholes are cut with a water jet or laser, and that the programming on the machine doing that might be a hair off and not creating a perfect circle.
