Greetings, and thanks for checking out this thread!

Chieftain is designed for one thing, and that's to help break down game. Could be little squirrels or large elk- it don't matter to Chieftain, Chieftain don't discriminate!

The hollow ground blade is brought to a narrow shoulder width, with a flat ground secondary bevel just waiting to be convexed over time. This CPM D2 gets wicked sharp with not much work. It ain't wear resistant like 10V, and it ain't corrosion resistant like AEB-L, but it rewards the careful outoorsperson with a ludicrously keen edge.

The blade on this specimen is .177", cryogenic quenched with hand rubbed flats and belt finished bevels.

The tang frame and handle scales are held in place with 4, 2mm hidden, stainless steel pins. The tang is held in place with 3, 1/8" pins and another 2, 2mm pins. The tang frame is laminated black and white G10, and the handle scales are Richlite.

Sheath-wise, you're looking at about 9oz veg tan leather, with a goat suede liner. It's all hand stitched, wet molded and hot packed. It's designed to carry up and out of the way of your bow or rifle. I'm not gonna lie, this sheath kicked my ass! It was hard to make and took a long time, but I learned a bunch of new stuff, (and, let's face it, some old stuff that I already learned, lol!).

Blade Length; 4 1/4"
Overall Length; 8 3/8"
Weight of knife; 4.85oz
Combined weight; 9oz

Thank you for looking! Comments and questions welcome.

Cheers!

Sweet......You need some OD green. In Your Life my friend๐Ÿ˜‰....

Great job pants and blade!!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

You killed it!! You should do a "work-n'progress" thread sometime. I'd love to see how you integrate your back spacer material into your handle design

Looks nice. I like the overall aesthetics of the design. I wonder how it would preform using thinner stock and a full height grind.
Thanks!

Thank you. There's some OD green burlap on the bench...

Appreciate it. There is no backspacer, the tang frame is all one piece, it's just truncated where the steel ends if that makes sense

Thanks!

I think I know what you mean. It would be cool to see how you do that. Great transition!

here's a photo of the blade/tang component. Let your eye draw the handle shape starting from the shoulders which mark the transition down to the tang. Scribed on there is the front of the handle. Hopefully helps?
Another superb design and job my friend.....
Thank you, Dudley ๐Ÿ™Œ
Really like the shape of it !
that's what we're looking for here๐Ÿ‘Š
That looks awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, and it's my pleasure
The Bush-Pirate!
that's what I was known as in high school ;)

Really cool idea to transition to a thin tang โ€œbehindโ€ the guard. Light and strong. ๐Ÿ’ช

Thanks- it's a little tricky to do cleanly, but it's a neat look and a good way to add a little weight to the mid point of the knife while not adding too much weight
Really!!!! I sure do!!!!! Your is sexier with all the curves tnough.......His version is too linear after seeing yours๐Ÿ˜‰
well, to be fair, the SERE has different design parameters which call for a more inline layout- Chieftain is strictly a hunting knife and, as such, requires locating the tip in a different place and more curvature to the edge profile. I appreciate the comparison with such an iconic blade, though, and your kind words๐Ÿ‘

Totally agree with your assessment of design parameters....๐Ÿ‘.......I always love your work...๐Ÿ‘Œ
