Saw something pretty cool today. 8 icebergs washed up on shore just down the street from my house.

Maybe spring is coming...it gives me hope anyways. :o Nevertheless, I was able to chip off "the tip of the iceberg" for some evening cocktails. Nothing like a million year old icecube to teach you the true meaning of cold.

Now there's something you don't see everyday!!!. . . At least not in Ohio!

Very cool . . . . Literally ! ! ! !

Now that would help make some very memorable drinks!!

Very Cooooool indeed!!:thumbup::D:thumbup:

Exactly, which is actually not cool.

It would not be cool .... if it wasn't the biggest boondoggle to come around since the 70s. Back then the hype was .... Global Cooling - because of all the evil man was doing to goddess earth........

Actually the temps have been cooling since 1989. Lack of sun spots suggests global cooling....

So Lets Drink!!!!

Wow, the land where you live is beautiful! Good call on chipping of a lil piece for your drinks!!!

Than you for sharing these with us. This reminds me of a fishing trip to Baffin island near Pangniurtung, we stood on the ice burgs on the shore and caught arctic char- back in 1985.

Hey Bro, that stuff is good to fill the coolers with when ya go fishing. We never buy ice or take it from the house if we go to Prince William Sound.

Cool pics... pun intended. :D

Love the blue colors you get with icebergs too.

Thanks for sharing.

This reminds me of something.

One of my fav. shows in the 80's was Northern Exposure. I remember the episode where Joel finds the Woolly Mammoth in the glacier. He spends the episode convincing folks he's seen it. Goes back and it's GONE.

The old hermit guy took the whole thing home and cooked it. ROTFL!!!!

BTW - Janine Turner FTW!

Hey, thanks for the kind responses gents. Russmo, we use that same idea when we fish out toward the glacier. Actually, this town was founded where it was in part because the close proximity to the glacier made it easy for the fishing fleet to keep their catch cool and fresh. We are the biggest salmon producing port on the Pacific Ocean!!

I moved back to my childhood hometown just last spring after being gone for 15 years (hence Idaho Jarhead is residing in Alaska :o) While I haven't done enough of my own research to make up my own mind about how I feel in regard to global warming, I can tell you it was shocking to see how far the glacier has receded in that time.

With that being said though, it is natural for the glaciers to calve off ice; even in global cooling.

I was on a trip of Newfoundland on the other coast a couple years back. We took the Ferry from Lewisporte to Goose Bay Labrador. While in Nfld we took a boat trip to see some 'bergs.

Here are a few pictures.
