Hi folks,
I hope you dont mind me asking this, but I cant think of any better place to ask this question but here.

I have had in my possesion for some time a Chillington Arpax Tomahawk, .it resembles greatly a firemans safety Axe ( but in tomahawk size ).

What I like about this, is the condition, it also has it's original sheath, also a rubber type handle apparantely to withstand electric shock??
The sheath is original, and is not an addition....on the handle it has a sticker that says "PASSED BS 3054 TEST"
Im taking this as this meant a British Standard Test.
Please...if you have any information, or comments...please contibute.
Thanks very much for your time in reading this.
Have a great day,
Duncan

This looks like a British aircraft "crash hatchet".
Wow...thats interesting....Where could I find out more about this then?.
I thought it was quite neat that the "sheath " was still with the axe!

Robin,
Thank you for that Sir!!...thats is a very helpfull piece ( and a large chunk I must say ) of the puzzle. :)
I hope I am not pushing the boundries by asking this...
Ok...so its looking more like a Firemans safety axe, was this in use by the British, or the U.S fireman establishments?
If I find that out..maybe I can get photos?
But thank you Robin, and edmundl for your help so far

The 'ARPAX' was manufactured by the Chillington Tool Company Limited of Wolverhampton and is notable for its rubber handle, subject to a patent applied for in June 1938 and finally granted in December 1939. [8]
Being encased in a tough rubber, the handle was claimed to be less liable to catch fire or break than the traditional wooden types, and would also protect the user from potentially fatal shocks if he or she happened to accidentally cut through electric cables. To this end, moulded into the handle was the comforting phrase 'TESTED 20.000 VOLTS'.

Great historic find.

The company still seems to be in business. They make farm implements, hoes and rakes

I have recently posted a very similar one from Norway that was sold as a firefighter hatchet.

Fantastic info found there tomcrx...with that and everyones help ...its answered everything!!
It looks as though my one is a example considered to be in very good condition.
I see that someone has put a varnish, or laquer of some sort on thge axe head...which doesnt help its appearence, but the actual finish on the stell is terrific!.
Folks on the A,T&H Forum, you helped me so much, and thank you for that!
Have a great weekend everyone,
Duncan.
