Gang, Hello!

I want to show you a very unique work of a Russian knifemaker Andrej Kisurin. This work is called “Chimera”.

Handle: length 108 mm, width 36 mm, anodized titanium, stainless steel, steel 65G, alloy - “syakudo” (silver, gold and copper).
Blade: RWL 34 length 102 mm, width 31 mm, thickness of the widest part of the knife’s blade 3,4 mm, hardness 63HR, the knife’s secondary hardness thermal regime.
Artistic techniques: engraving, hammered ironwork, investment casting, anodizing, oxidation.
Mechanism: a unique (original) construction, no analogue. Blade has 7 positions.

It was very interesting for me to work at this project with Andrej. We took Andrej’s idea of a unique mechanism for the basis of a future knife. We were discussing the theme of a knife for a long time. I wanted to unite the idea of the Lion (this is a sign of my wife) and a metamorphosis and changes. Andrej offered Chimera. I liked his idea in the end. Andrej embodied the idea in the image.

Here is what he is writing about it:
«
An impossible idea, thought, an elusive guess; so close and at the same time so elusory, almost like a ghostly vision: but it is still recognizable and it is like nothing else on earth. It is like a snake’s venom and it can kill one plunging its deadly sting. It can also lead one by changing into a lion. And it can also make one feel superior changing this one into a dragon, the creature being able to control natural powers …
A pencil is sliding over the rough surface of the paper connecting nonexistent symbols and images together, which are about to be recognized and are very close to represent an idea forming in one’s mind … And it seems to one that these symbols and images are likely to be understood and thought over and be changed into a rapidly developing element of “Chimera”, but something happens … and suddenly the paper is getting wrinkled and one flings this page quickly because it reminds of a failure … And this happens over and over again and one begins to understand nothing and gives up …
But then it comes to a person at the edge of a dream, when the real world is still there, but the dreams have already opened their doors and a person is about to come into the world of the realm of Morpheus. And a person wakes up with an effort to make a few sketches, then he looks at them and he is a bit disappointed … and after that a person cannot fall asleep for a long time …
And then after a while you find all your sketches and try to unite these wrinkled papers, dozens of images, not bad at all, which even have some unity and put them around you and suddenly – those few lines which you stole from your sleep are becoming a unifying element. And slowly, step by step color, a form, a setting and a mechanism are all coming to your mind. And the idea becomes almost real … But as soon as you start thinking about this idea’s realization, it seems to you that this so fragile architecture is about to break into pieces … At such a moment you are thinking again: “This job is just too difficult for me …” But if this is that very impossible idea, then this is just it: “Chimera”. And … it is worth trying …

Andrej had been working at Chimera for about 6 months. It was a very interesting time to look at photos which Andrej sent to me and to see as idea was being realized in metal. When the work was finished I understood that I could not show all the beauty of Chimera in a photo. So, we invited a professional photographer Anton Havtorin. Anton made excellent photos and now you can see them below. But the invitation of the photographer also had the negative moment during our work. Anton showed the photo of Chimera at this forum without my approval. I was very upset when I saw his thread at forum. I became very angry because I wanted to show it at forum by myself. Under my request Anton deleted the thread but a lot of people had already seen it.

I was sad before Chimera’s arrival. But when I took it into my hands I forgot about all my grieves. It is difficult for me to express my feelings. Maybe the right word is ‘Gorgeous! Awesome! Incredible!’ It’s a real masterpiece! It’s a true art work! These are excellent words but Chimera is much better than any word!

I received Chimera two days before my birthday. It was very pleasant. It was a gift for my 50th birthday.
I am very happy that Chimera is in my collection now.

Photos Anton Havtorin.

wow, this should be exhibited in the museum of modern art.
you should consider lawn it to them for display, its so special.

Very interesting folder with a cool locking mechanism. On top of that I love push daggers.

Thanks for kind words! I am glad that you like Chimera

Fantastic one!
Erni, sorry for that misunderstanding with photos.

Can I publish them now in my blogs?

Hel -lo!!! Now THAT is not just another boring Bowie.

I think it is stunning. I don't even like push daggers, but I love this knife. I mean, really love it.

I only hope that the knives we see later this week at the CKCA banquet for the Challenge just come close to pushing the envelope the way this one does.

Congratulations, sir!

Thanks for good responses.

Barahir
