look at this ebay # 6631877598 I think it was made in China.
Read the description what american craftsman made this.
Correct me if I am wrong.

The UH he has at his store is also suspect.Did you ask him what made him think they are USA knives.Arnold

At least one of his Schrades is made in the USA. But I don't think he deserves your business.

Thanks for bringing your question to us!

Phil

i asked what the tang stamp read ,the answer was see photo. Then i ask if this is china made or usa made and no answer yet on that one! but this burns me up when they mis lead people this like this! Ebay needs to create two different
sections for USA and China made.oh well what can you do!

The "First Production Run" is another tip-off.A lot of Taylors first Chinese :D imports advertised that.
Ask the forum process engineer about the advisability of staying away from first production run products, even if they're made in th USA,especially vehicles.

If he is selling the knife he has pictures of, he is selling a china made knife! :thumbdn:
But in his ad he says; "YOU ARE BIDDING ON A SCHRADE USA (3) BLADE POCKET KNIFE 340T." and later he says; "SCHRADE IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS, WHICH WELL DRIVE THE VALUE UP ON ALL THE OLDER KNIVES AND MAKES THIS A COLLECTORS ITEM. THIS KNIFE HAS BEEN RUBBED OUT TO BRING IT TO ITS LUSTER AND I WOULD SAY THE CONDITION IS MINT. BID WITH CONFIDENCE AND OWN A PIECE OF AMERICAN CRAFTMANSHIP."

The tang stamp of the model number on the reverse of the main blade and the "First Production Run" are marks of the Chinese made Schrades and not the American made ones. I see that this guy already has one question from a buyer that is questioning the origin of this knife, which he posted. I just sent him another more lengthy one. Let's see if he posts my question. :D :D I also pointed out to him that it is not an "older knife" (as he claims), but was made after the closure of Imperial Schrade on July 30, 2004.

It really irks me when a seller does this. Ignorance is one thing, but this guy has obviously been told that his knife is not American and he just made fun of the person who sent him the question. It will be interesting to see if he will post my Question. :D

Q: This knife is a Taylor Brands LLC knife MADE IN CHINA. Your ad is full of misrepresentations. Your 100% feedback score won't last too long at this rate.

A: WOW....SOME OF US DON'T KNOW IT ALL WE JUST DO OUR BEST....I ALSO POST INFORMATION FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE SO KIND TO GIVE ME INFO...EVEN WITH IDLE THOUGHTS LIKE YOURS
Whatta looser. Do you suppose he just copped the pic from the Chitaylor site, and doen not realize what he posted? It says China 05 right on the knife!

To be a first run Schrade, it would have to be a 1963/64 vintage Schrade Walden. But...we dont know it all do we?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "OLD TIMER" shield on that knife odd as well? I don't ever recall having seen a shield with raised dash marks around the periphery as he has on his knife.

IMHO, the seller is FOS when he says he is just doing his best. I suspect that he knows full well that he is misrepresenting his item. I just feel sorry for the poor unsuspecting kid just getting into knife collecting and spending his allowance or work money on this knife just to be disappointed when it arrives in the mail and he sees what it is.

Also, a technical question for Codger 64: how did you get such a sharp enlargment of the logo pic in which you can clearly see the words "CHINA '05" ? I saved the pic from Ebay and then used Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 to enlarge, but it pixelates before getting large enough to see those details.

And, w5rwu, you ask: "oh well what can you do!"
Maybe something. I reported the item to Ebay as suspected of being fruadulent by way of intentional misrepresentation. let's see what happens with this auction.

Codger, The question and answer you quoted was mine. I'm really surprised he posted it on ebay, but I also see he did not alter his ad copy by one word. He is REALLY something....either crooked or stupid.

Paul

"BID WITH CONFIDENCE AND OWN A PIECE OF AMERICAN CRAFTMANSHIP ". I think this is what set me off . Some one will buy this and think they really have something special only to find later it is piece Chicom junk.thanks guys ,sad thing is, there is alot more of them just like this one
randy

Looking at his other auctions I didn't see any real Schrades. :thumbdn:
Watta loser!

There ya go and I was being so quiet. Here is a little song sung to the tune of God Bless America. We Ruv amelicans they are so dumb we make them die then we make them cry then whatever we sell they will buy. I am submitting a couple of pictures they only serve to get my ( er feces off ). A buck is a buck it seems it does not matter who you er rhymes with buck but starts with an F. By the way please accept my apology for not being able to post a similar pic for the valiant americans who fought the korean war. Which was another commy gook special . Whoops did I insult some one SO SOLLY. Let me know and we can find a vacant parking lot and discuss it face to face . I am only 60 soon no one will remember. Until the rest of us are gone perhapes you might want to stay under your rocks. AHHHH SOOO. LT

NOBODY SAY ANYTHING TO THAT JERK!! I'M BIDDING ON THAT KNIFE!!! THEN WE'LL SEE WHAT WE SEE!! 'NUFF SAID!!!!!

Which brings back old memories as to why Schrade went belly up
http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2003/07/13/pbschrad.htm
Waves of immitations and cheap off-shore labour.
For now at least, the majority of PRC made cutlery is made of low end stainless steel. Which makes them POS for folks who know their knives.
I sure hope that no one in their right sense would give them the steel needed to bridge that technological gap.

Schrade never used the cutler in a circle like that. The enlarged etch photo is from my photo archives on Chitaylor knives, not from the ebay listing. Anyone doubt they are one and the same?

There is such a proliferation of Chitaylors on eBay, it is nearly impossible to inform all of the sellers (or buyers) of what they are seeing. It would be a full time job. Complicating matters is that many sellers don't take their own pictures of the actual items for sale, but cop a picture anywhere they find one, even Taylor's recycled pics from the original Schrade website. Few sellers go to the trouble to mention "American Made" so many times when hawking their chinese knives, however.

If you happen to see a proliferation of sellers posting corrected date and I.D. info on Schrades without a name tacked onto the message, I am at least partially to blame. I learned the hard way not to expect them to do a corrected listing with the info in their own words. For every schnitzle that does like the referenced seller above, there are a dozen who are glad to receive a polite assessment of the Schrade they are listing. Let the education of sellers and bidders continue!

Codger

You might make a patch like that for Korea. It is now the "Forgotten War". A friend who was with the !st Marines remembers it very well and gave me a blow by blow this past week end while we were fishing. He didn't like the Japs much after he fought them and doesn't have any love lost with the Chinese after the Chosin Reservoir.
You can bet he looks at labels.

It turns out the group who are producing the U.S.Classics "designed in Kentucky" are supplying the 440C for their knives made in China!! So the technological gap IS bridged, at least as far as the steel goes! Also, most cutleries, except Case which jigs and dies its own, are getting their jigged, dyed bone from China.

Waynorth,
The guy finally posted a disclaimer:

On May-22-06 at 22:42:59 PDT, seller added the following information:
OKAY FOLKS I HAVE MADE AN ERROR.....THIS IS NOT AN AMERICAN MADE ITS A CHINISE MADE FIRST PRODUCTION RUN...I DO THANK YOU FOR THE EMAILS SETTING THIS STRIAGHT
.

Unless you really want the knife, you may want to cancel your bid.

I see he has a Chi-com 897 listed als and he hasn't posted a disclaimer on it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SCHRADE-CLASSIC...ryZ48820QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Somebody ought to file a fraud report on that one, also.

A couple of his other Schrade auctions are more difficult to determine whether they are counterfeit Chi-coms or not.
Ron

Well, he did post my question and changed his listing. I also sent him an email on the 897UH in auction #6631864017. Let's see if he posts it. He has some US made knives and some chitaylors. Maybe he is really just STUPID. :barf:

He lists his location as Oregon. Maybe I should get in touch with him and offer to take a couple hundred real Schrades over so that he can learn to "Read the Knife" as BL always says. :D

Dale
Always glad to bring Schrade Enlightenment to some poor chitaylor chirade user.

PS- I see the brought back the barf smilie just for this thread. Thanks.
