The Chinese made Buck 301 with the vertical pointing arrow after the 301 model number was manufactured in 2008. It has brass liners. Whereas, those manufactured in 2009 and later have horizontal pointing arrows after the 301 model number. Those have stainless liners. My question is, does the 2008 and 2009 and later models have the same steel 420J2 or does the 2008 model have 420HC?

You must be referring to the 371. The 301 is and always has been made in the USA. The catalog for 2008 says that the 371 is 420HC.

From 2006-2008 the Buck 371 is listed in the catalogs as "420HC". Starting in 2009 they are listed as "420J2" and are so listed through the current 2011 catalog.

Thanks very much to you fellows for your replies. I thought the 2008 might be 420HC but could find nothing to verify that. Thanks again!
