walmart now carries buck slipjoints made in china. I picked up a chinese 301 stockman for 20 bucks. It was reasonable sharp, no blade play in the blades, nice wood handle. Weill see how it performs. any other experience with these? what kind of steel is in them?

From what I've read all of Buck's slipjoints are now being made in China and will have 440c blades.

Time will only tell if they can cut the mustard but Buck holds their foreign vendors to pretty high standards. I like the fact that they're using 440c but wish they'd switch back to stainless liners.

no not all of the 301's are being made in china. we still sell them with 420HC made in America. I did talk to the buck rep the other day and he said they have a lot of new stuff coming out of taiwan. He said it is good quality though and that we shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the new and old ones.
