My wife and I enjoy this YouTube channel. She likes the cooking, I like the blades.:) Can anyone id this knife? It doesn’t appear to be the standard Chinese chefs knife. The closest I can get is a “bone chopping knife.”

I have wondered about that clever too, as she uses it for everything to include making bamboo furniture with it. John

It looks like a Chinese Vegetable Cleaver. If you stay away from the Japanese renditions, the metal is softer and less prone to chipping.
There are various grades, if you have a decent sized Chinatown in your area you may find a selection. Some are also used to chop through bone. Searching for one Amazon could take a while.

A friend of mine who is into cleavers and cooking, presently in Malaysia going to another cooking school, said it looked like the cleavers he saw in Hanoi. If I identified the woman correctly, she lives in Yunnan, province of China, which borders on Vietnam and Laos. I would think like other parts of the world, there is a certain amount of cross trade between bordering countries. In any case she has knife skills and uses that clever to do a lot of different cutting tasks. John

A nearby Chinatown is the answer. My GF was born in China and we go there for grocery shopping at a large store. She shops, I browse the kitchen utensil isles. They have many different styles and sizes of clever type knives and most are pretty inexpensive.
