Hey Blades,

Thanks for the info. What do you like about it? It looks like a great knife.

Take care,

I really like mine. Like someone said "It's so sharp that the blade's shadow will cut you". Mine is # 464, I changed from a Benchmade Osborne to this Lum for my everyday wear.It has nice slim profile and with the clip moved to the tail end it fits nicely in the waist band of my suit pants.
Whoops!! Sorry extra PIC another of my favorite Spydies got in by mistake. This guy is up at the top of my list of folders. The Alaska Wegner.

Well I haven't cut anything yet, so I can't comment on its cutting ability. But it is VG-10 steel and a flat ground blade, it should cut whatever and then some. It is thin, and lighter then I expected, but still feels great in my hand. I love the green handle. My wife even liked the green handle. It is a user and a show piece. It will be great for the sheeple to see and handle. Who could possible not like this knife??

I like the style of the blade. The leaf shape just looks "right" to my eye. When closed it looks good, when open it looks good. The handle fits my hand just right, either open or closed. I can grip it when closed and the bottom of the handle sticks out just enough to use as a blunt "head bonker"

Ever since I saw a picture of the custom Bob Lum Chinese Folder in "Blade" magazine(about 3 years ago) I liked it. I knew I would never own one. Who has an extra $500.00?? Then I made it to the '98 Blade Show, and lo and behold Spyderco had a prototype. Three actually. A "Papa", "Mama" and "child". The "Mama"(medium size) was just right. Not too small, not too big(but I liked the big one also). Sooo I(actually Clay Kesting and myself)have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting and telling everyone to leave Sal alone so he could get our Chinese folder made. After a long but fun wait, I have it!!! (Clay is getting his soon). Now I need two more. A serrated, just cause Spyderco made one, and another plain edge(Maybe two more plain edges. I want some spares). It is just a cool knife.

Get one today!! If ya work in an office, get one!! If ya don't, get one!! Just get one!! You'll love it!!

G'day Blades, thank you for acknowledging my part in the vigil
biggrin.gif
. I just did a search and found 28 posts on this forum which mentioned both my name and "Chinese Folder" (I guess it's 29 now) so I must be truly obsessed. I first saw the custom version of the Chinese Folder on Arizona Custom Knives website before Blade '98 and was over the moon (is that possible
smile.gif
) when the Knifecenter described a Spyderco prototype with a leaf shaped blade and curved handle seen at the show (at least they didn't photograph it Sal
wink.gif
). I'm not sure why, but no design I've seen before or since has captured my imagination like this Lum, in fact, once I lay my hands on one, I may never buy another knife....nah. My only fear has been that it may not live up to expectations but, judging by your reaction, I don't think I need to worry too much. Gotta go, I think I hear the postman

.

p.s. Blades, check out the For Sale forum, there are a couple of serrated CFs over there.

What is the tip like on the blade of the Lum Chinese Folder? Is it thin like a Delica or a thick strong tip?

The Lum Chinese had a very strong tip. The whole blade is sturdy. The shape is kind of like a pregnant SAK spearpoint. The knife is a great slicer and has very utilitarian look.
It is probably the most practical Spyderco to come out since the Calypso Jr. interms of everyday carry.

I found the picture that put me on the quest for a Bob Lum Chinese Folder!! It was in the 1997 December issue of "Blade" magazine. Page 14, bottom left corner.

What a great knife. I almost have made it to knife nirvana.

I got my Chinese Folder yesterday. I'm with Blades and everyone else - it's a great folder! Very unique shape and a cool green, non-tactical color. Overall, I love it! Haven't used it yet though. I may go for a plain edge version later on down the road. Kudos to Sal & crew for another great piece!

I really like mine!

Need some time more to play with it to know it better, when I'll share my impressions somewhat more particularly

Got mine today. I have to say it is just a beautiful knife. I have #653 plain. Feels sturdy. Now I just have to go through that ritual wait until the first scratch to get it outta my system phase so I can use it.

It is a nice gent size folder.

Blades,
See, I didn't lie to you! Glad you got it!
Wait til you see the "World Knife" (my phrase) Sal's taking to Europe.

I've been carrying mine for alittle while now. Showing it to everyone. No scratches yet.

I'm still getting use to opening it. I've carried my Delica/Endura combo for 7 years now, so switching to this fantastic knife is hard. Too much muscle memory built in. Oh well.
