I am a knife guy. Amateur maker and generally stupid about knives. I have at least 50 or 60 that I have picked up in the last few years. Lots of BenchMade, ZT and Kershaws. Quite a few Spyderco's and a mixmatch of everybody else. In the recent past I was at a gun and knife show and picked up a WE and a Kizer knife for next to nothing. I was unfamiliar with both brands. I knew that they felt and looked ok but I figured for that price, I would find out their true worth once I got them home on the bench. I was not expecting much. I was WRONG!

Needless to say, these two knives are every bit as well fit and finished as any of my American made knives. Now I have a dilemma to face. I buy American! I fly an American flag on my lawn all year long. I drive a chevy truck! I also am retired and working with a fixed income.

I have a hard time feeling guilty while fidgeting with my two new toys from China? I will continue to buy American knives as I can afford them but a better knife for half the price is tough to condemn. Bummer

This may or may not get moved to the political forum but I will throw in a few thoughts.

Buy what you like and what you can afford. I try to "buy American" when I can afford it but sometimes a product made elsewhere is just more budget friendly. I'm on a strict budget for toys which includes knives and firearms. I'm on a strict budget due to my failings on starting my own business years ago. I'm behind on where I need to be for my retirement so I understand your financial situation.

Some folks here on BFs prefer not to buy from China and that is just fine too. If someone wants a recommendation on a $200 knife and wants it made in the USA, I don't question the motives or ideals, I just help look for the best, bang for the knife made in America that meets their requirements.

There is a place for all of us in this forum and global economy.

I would say use and fidget with all your knives and not feel guilty about it.

Original designs that are well executed deserve a place in a collection, regardless of where it's made IMO. I like also when the company is active in the knife community, and when you can tell it's the knife life for them as well.

The General Forum is not the place for political discussion. Buy or avoid is a personal choice.
