Chinese Knife Sharpener

How much do new scissors cost in China? Might just be worth it to get new ones than sharpening them.

Not much different than the door-to-door knife sharpening services seen here in the states. Except our guys are driving around in mini-vans with their business name billboarded on the sides and they're using powered sharpeners.

I've seen that similar style in Mexico but 25 yrs. ago. Thank you for posting the video. DM

He used water stones and the knives looked mostly like simple stainless. He'll do fine. He's not working markets, looked like mostly neighborhoods. Even in China this art is dying. DM

I doubt it, China is where cheap scissors are made, but while we get paid in dollars they get paid in Yuan. Besides, those scissors actually look better than the cheap stuff you get on sale at Office Depot or Walgreens.

I'm surprised he didn't set up outside of an apartment building. You'd think he could get a day or more of work in the courtyard of a complex. Probably local ordinances. I would have thought he could work weekend markets too.
Rough life and not much of a retirement if people don't even know that these services exist.

We merely had a glimpse of a day in his career. I'm sure he knows where the busy markets are and visits those off camera. I'm glad he still makes the rounds. DM

After watching this several times, I notice he uses 2 water stones and the grinding wheel. A coarse SiC wheel. He may have more in his bag
but I doubt a half dozen. As the bag would get heavy by the end of the day. He carries only what we needs and those that will get him through
the day. DM
