Okay maybe I'm an old timer but the idea of knives from China that now claim to be made of all sorts of expensive steels. Does anybody really believe this? Has anyone really tested these knives to see if they are really what they claim? I can tell you from my experience that it's very difficult and expensive to determine the steel used in a particular knife, so they can claim it's made of whatever steel they want to. Caveat emptor!

Like anything else, you have to keep in mind the company it's coming from.

There's a big difference between Chinese manufacturers like WE, Kizer and Bestech compared to some other companies like Eafengrow or other fly-by-night "knife companies" dumping knives on Amazon...

Yea but even those companies ya listed, WE etc all benefit from cheap labor and even get the same quality materials produced cheaper by cheap labor. Therefore they’re able to completely undercut the American market and American manufacturers.

I think it’s really sad what’s happening no matter how nice and quality made their products are because that’s exactly what they’re doing, under cutting the American market.

And worst of all it’s our fault because we’re purchasing them. Well not me but plenty obviously are. I hate when I hear “Oh, wow I got a We titanium frame lock for only $250 and it’s just as good or better as any American made titanium frame lock that costs $500!” Terrible!!

Then there’s designers that get their knives made by these companies and have the nerve to charge in the $4-500 range which directly impacts our small manufacturers like Reeves and Hinderers because now these giant manufacturers are in direct competition with them through small time designers. Some that were doing knife reviews in their parents basement just the year before.

What’s happening is sad and pathetic and its all our own fault by buying these products!

I’ll go ahead and apologize now cause I’m sure I’m about to get reprimanded but I just had to get it off my chest! ✌️

I'll just put this here now because this is going to end badly very soon.........

Don't see any reason you would get reprimanded, you just stated how you feel. Although we know how many of the "chinese" knife threads tend to end 😆🔒

But just for clarification, I will say that I was just stating that some Chinese manufacturers are more reputable than others, that's it. Not that they don't all benefit from under paid, over worked labor.

Nope.

Done to death.

Feel free to discuss specific knives and their pros and cons.

Do not feel free to discuss China, human rights violations, slave labor, or whatever other hot button topics do not belong in "General Knife Discussion".

Bonus: We have sub-forums for the discussion of Current Events and Politics. Feel free to visit them and opine.
