I was recently working a deal to trade my Buck-Strider 888 Solution with another member of this forum (a very well-known and respected knife maker I might add) when I was alerted by him about a lot of Chinese knockoffs of this model that are being sold on ebay.

I did purchase my Solution awhile back on ebay and cannot recall exactly where the knife was shipped from. It looks very authentic and came with the box, papers and all.

Does anybody have any knowledge of these knockoffs and how or if I can tell if the one I own is a true Buck-Strider or not? I will post detailed pics of mine a little later to see if anyone can tell by the pics alone.

Thanks!

I would think if you have the correct box with correct labels and the paperwork, the knife has the right stamps and logos, and you did'nt purchase from a dealer in Hong Kong, your knife is probably not a fake. There was a thread about the 888 fakes a couple months ago on this forum. One point I made then was that Buck sold off the remainder of their 888 Solution stock at very discounted prices. I bought one at the annual Buck factory sale for $65 or $75 and there were guys buying five or six of them at a time. I would think at some point these would start making their way to E-bay and other for sale venues so I would'nt be afraid of every reasonably priced 888. IIRC nobody here actually had a fake 888 or a picture of one to compare to a genuine Buck 888.
