Old tool with some upgrades, Chinese soldiers, and a vaguely Indy Jones soundtrack.

Entrenching tools are actually quite useful. More than anything, this video shows a bit of how ingenuity can be used with scarce resources. No, scratch that, more than anything, this video makes me laugh out loud - especially the "shield" one.

it's definitely a cool shovel but this one gets posted about once a month and would probably be better suited in the outdoors kit section :)

I just about guarantee you that it's a fresh shovel in every scene. I really doubt that one of them could stand up to all of the abuse they show in the film. :p

Your probably right. There is way to much poor editing in that film. I'm not even sure how they climbed out of a trench with one. It shows them at the bottom, then shows them at the top climbing out. But it does have some really cool features. If it is indeed intended for their military, I doubt they would cut corners on quality.

Power in numbers. Who would you fear more--one guy armed to the teeth with all the latest armor and weapons...or 500 naked guys with shovels? :D

Naked because it's cheaper to equip them that way. Or they're Celts. :p But look at it this way--you have $1,000,000 to build a group of fighters. Hiring each person costs you $100, plus the cost of whatever you choose to give them for gear. Your opponent is in the same circumstance. How would you divide the money?

Personally? I'd hire a sniper to shoot the leader so the troops will lose heart & go home. Then we'd divide the cash!

It would make sense for them to make the shovels with middle of the road quality so as to produce a few million of them for their military. A common quote by the U.S. Armed forces is that equipment is made by the lowest bidder. Until someone gets one in the hand, we can only assume what the quality may be. And knowledge of equipment intended for mass infantry units tell us it's likely of poor quality. But the design is certainly the best anyone's ever seen in a shovel. Less we forget they did invent the wheel barrel. And they built they great well in only a few hundred years......bad example. But still better than your "Naked Celts" example. :D
