I picked this up from everyone's favorite import site. I searched the top three custom knife dealers websites (5000+ knives) trying to find if this was a copy of a custom knife. I wasn't able to find it. I am sure the fine folks here at BF will set me straight in short order. Go ahead - I have my Nomex Panties on so give me your best shot.

Um... Nope....

That thing is pretty gaudy for my taste. but the Chinese can smell a winner

I think it's great looking. I'd carry it if it turns out not to be a counterfeit, and the price is right. Those Chinese ceramic bearings are amazing if in a well machined race. I imagine this would flip just as smooth as the ceramics I own. So I'm hopeful that it's not a copy. But sometimes you just never know until it's too late (if you are not familiar with the original custom maker/designer).

Well I think Sal said "its not wear your knife is made but by whom"?

That being said I believe that the Chinese are capable of making a good product. My only snag is that every dollar you spend on anything Chinese made ends up going to their PLA and will be used against an American in the not so near future.

Made when you hear of an American ship being sunk it might take some of the shine off that fancy toad sticker.

Just my $0.02

It's not an exact copy like others, but to me it's obvious where the idea came from.

I'm not seeing anything to suggest one was based on the other. They're both frame lock drop points with sleek lines, that's pretty much it. The biggest similarity I can see is in the shape of the bottom half of the handle.

If this knife wasn't Chinese and you weren't looking for something American it resembles, would "Brian Nadeau clone" have even occurred to you?

You seem awfully certain we're going to war. You might want to reexamine that opinion.

Clone, copy, whatever it is, it looks tacky. Looks like a Tac Force dye job on an otherwise decent looking knife.

The construction of the knife is different than I have seen before. It was one of the reasons I purchased the knife was to figure out how it worked. The back spacer has two internal pins that go through the spacer into the frame/scales holding it stationary. The scales are held together and in place by the pocket clip and the glass breaker. The glass breaker has a threaded post which goes through the clip and into the back spacer. When tightened down there is no movement or play in the clip, spacer or frame. There are no visible screws on the knife but the pivot and the screw holding the SS insert/overtravel stop. I am unclear how the thumb stud is attached.

That Brian Nadeau Typhoon is a beautiful knife. I had never seen it before. There are Brian Nadeau Typhoons I found when I searched, that I like even better than the one pictured, that man has talent, but in this case I don't believe it was copied. Tyler's definition of "blatant knockoff" is different than mine. It still wouldn't surprise me to have someone post something that it actually looks like, there are only so many ways to make a knife, but I couldn't find it prior to purchase and I made a significant effort. Because of it unique construction I felt there had to be another out there.

Sit down and try to design a knife. No matter what you come up with it's going to look similar to some existing knife.

The complete lack of markings raises a few red flags for me, but you seem to have satisfied due diligence in your research to avoid buying a counterfeit. Lots of knives are derivative, imo. My first thought when I saw your photos was 'pimped out Skyline'... -ish, kinda, sorta... if you squint, maybe. :o

Enjoy your knife, OP! :)

A rather ingenious design. As delivered there was a D-Ring and leather piece on the glass breaker. This allows for the rear to be disassembled with no tools. I didn't like them, so I removed them.
