Hello everyone,
this knife is a take on something a Chinese pirate would have around 1700's. It is extra-improved plow steel cable, curly maple, wrought iron, and copper. The blade is highly-polished with a really nice grain structure (hada) and a hamon. The heat treatment interacts with the grain of the steel in some interesting ways. The fittings are not highly-polished because of the look I was going after. The handle is highly-polished because I love curly maple with aqua fortis and oil stain. The curved handle and the heavy guard make the knife feel light and fast in the hand. These aspects of the design push the point of balance back so that the relatively large blade still feels quick (blade is 11" long).

Hope you like. Thanks for looking. Comments, advice, etc. is welcomed.

Kevin

Cool steel, Kevin. I like how diffuse the habuchi is with the weld lines crossing it. Looks a bit like kinsuji and inazuma.

Keep 'em coming! You need to realize that the coolest sword out there is a Chinese jian, also known as a "scholar's sword" or "Tai Chi sword." Then you need to make some. That's one of my aspirations for sure, ultimately I want to make twist-core p-weld ones, multiple cores and all.
