Hi folks, I'm a small time collector and a novice knifemaker. I recently bought a nice Baretta Loveless hunter with Chinese Quince scales. The burl is tight and beautiful, the wood seems to be sanded to 600 grit or more but the sheen/shine is simply not there. It looks like polished MUD! I'd hate to ruin the knife by going at it with my buffer. I will, though, if I can get a better polish.
Could it be that Chinese Quince is too oily or soft or pourous that prevents it from attaining a good polish?
