Have a nice Loveless style Baretta hollow ground tapered tang drop point with Chinese Quince wood slabs. The figure of the wood is superb but the finish looks like semi-polished MUD. Before I attack it with a buffer - is there some reason Chinese Quince can't take a high polish? Like...maybe it is too oily or soft or porous. Maybe it must be sealed or a surface finish applied.

I can get an almost glass-like finish on box elder burl, ironwood, maple burl and other stabilized woods but hesitate to try on a $190 knife I did not make. Help, please...

I dunno about chinese quince but the american equivalant is persimmon, a hardwood used for golf club heads. takes a nice shine on the clubs:D
