What are the changes from the Chinook 2 to the 3? Has anybody had any issues with the S30V chipping etc? I had Several Chinook 2,but never put them to any cutting use,so I wanted to get real user feedback on the S30v steel. Thanks

The difference is the the flat grind on the Chinook III. In fact, it was several months before they changed the designation from Chinook II Flat grind to Chinook III.

I believe the stories of S30V chipping are blown out of proportion. I have half a dozen or so knives with that steel, and I USE my knives. In fact, people here cringe when I describe just how hard I use them. I have never had a chip in S30V. I have had chips on my BG-42 Military from contact with a hidden finish nail, and undamaged edge on my S30V Manix from much harder impact on a hardened decking nail. Your milage may vary, but S30V is currently my steel of choice on my work knives. I say, use 'em if you got 'em. :D

Agreed! I think that, overall, S30v is the best steel on the market (VG-10 a very close 2nd). ZDP cuts like a lazor, but is also a very hard steel, plus I don't have a lot of info on it as it has only been used by Spyderco for a little over a year. The Caly jr. in ZDP was the 1st model to use ZDP (all ZDP models, so far, have been sprints.) Mine was made in Oct. of 05. The Caly jr. and Delica in ZDP flew off the shelves. Not so fast with the Horn, though. I have no idea why not because I love my ZDP Horn!
