I just received my Spyderco Chinook 4
today. It's very cool with the Bowie upswept blade and the power lock. I've noticed a few differences between the Golden vs Seki made Spyderco back locks. In this case the Manix 2 back lock vs the Chinook 4 power lock

Golden
-Smooth g10
-Manix 2 back lock sits flush with handle
-Smooth operation no issues from the factory
-very audible secure lock up
-comes sharp
-Thick handle
Japan -
-Rough g10
-Power lock does not sit flush and is slightly recessed below the spine/liners
-gritty/rough action from the factory
- lock up is strong, but feels different from other back locks
-comes sharp
-thin handle

I think my biggest issue is how the power lock doesn't sit flush with the liners and the gritty action from the factory. The Manix 2 back lock ticks all the boxes for me in those departments.

To give a differing experience... I have the recent Native 5 CF and the back lock isn't quite flush but the Caly3 from Japan is flush. Could be they give a bit more attention to detail with Sprints.

Perhaps the Power lock on your Chinook needs some time to break in.

I'm really excited about the release of the Chinook 4. Any more pics?

I love my C4. In researching the power lock I was curious about the lock bar not sitting flush with the spine but now realize this is the design, I kinda like how it adds a little texture when indexing the knife for position. I think that it may take some time to get used to the Powerlock afterall this a new design for the production knife market. What is really cool about the C4 Powerlock is that I'm pretty sure it is a refined version of the Tatanka, meaning they changed it slightly by getting rid of stop pin and used a longer blade tang to contact the new cam piece. The cam piece also appears to be stronger with new exposed mounting pin/hardware.:)
