CHINOOK - I went out today and bought one. It's the combo edge, and it's fabulous.

I am astounded with the sheer beauty of this knife. The way the steel of the blade gleams, especially with a light coat of oil on it. It just looks so rich and lustrous. The G-10 handle is perfectly cut, the action tight and the heft is formidable. It makes my hefty large Wegner feel "light duty"...

This Chinook locks up with a sound like a bank vault (heard someone else use this...) and came shaving sharp out of the box. One thing I'm impressed with is that although the blade has both plain edge and serrated portions, it is double bevel sharpened along the full length of the plain edge part. This to me, is uncommon and most appreciated.

Somewhat surprisingly, I find this knife quite comfortable to carry in the pocket or IWB. It is quite simply, a work of art from the Golden, Colorado factory.

Good on you Spyderco!

Contentedly, Jeff/1911.

So you finally got it Jeff?

Makes a good companion to your .45??

What I most appreciate about mine is the handle's design and construction and how well I can work with it. The G-10 is superb.
Well balanced, proportioned and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

The Chinook is truly a well designed AND executed tool.

G&K,

Yes, I sure do like it. As a matter of fact, I was just admiring it alongside my 1911 in .45 Auto this evening.

I was surprised to find the fit and finish of this knife even better than I thought it would be. And I thought it would be good!

Jeff.

Ditto on the Chinook dude, I got mine about a month ago and it has been my EDC ever since. Yeah it's a bit heavy, but I have never had a folder I felt was it's equal.

I really like this knife too. I had Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths make me a belt sheath for mine, it's multi-positional, vertical, horizontal etc.
Works great, saves wear and tear on my pocket, besides, probably have another knife in the poxket anyway!
But this knife will never be sold or traded away, it's like my Military or Sebenza, with me for life!

Thats really an ugly knife. It just so happens that I'm running an "ugly knife clearing house" so if you decide to get rid of that ole' ugly chinook. just let me know.....I WANT ONE!

Indeed it is a formidable folder. I used one around our campsites this past summer and it will accompany me into the bush from now on. Great choice.

Folks,

Thanks for sharing in my excitement. I sure enjoyed using the Chinook this weekend.

One neat thing about it, is I'm finding it's one fairly easy knife to operate with my left hand. Because of it's lockback (spinelock?) design, I can quite easily close it with just my left hand, which I find is difficult to do with a right hand designed linerlock. The Chinook is also really easy to open with it's jumbo Spyderhole (a' la" Military).

You see if I were to become completely comfortable with left handed deployment of the Chinook, my right front pocket would be freed up for another knife such as a Military or the like.

Jeff/1911.
