Chinook advice?

I've recently came into some cash and have narrowed my next knife down to the Chinook or the Manix. The site from which i'll be ordering from pictures the older Chinook.

Since Spyderco updated the design of the Chinook, i was wondering if the older model has any issues i should be aware of, aside from the difference of steel.

Also, if anyone who owns any of these knives has some in hand photos or comparison photos, that would really help. Since my location is horrible for knife shopping, some realistic photos might really help me to choose. I'm sure i'll be pleased with either knife though.

As far as I know, the only difference between the older and newer Chinook is the grind and the steel designation.....I have heard it said that 440V and S30V are one in the same steel with S30V being the new nomenclature, but I haven't subatantiated that rumor to my satisfaction yet. I own both a Manix and a Chinook, and I love both of them. For EDC I would recommend the Manix because it doesn't get as many "weird" looks from people when you pull it out to cut something.

Some people have said that the older chinooks were some what tight to open. Don't know if that's true personally. -But I do know the new one is a little lighter.

Chinook II in hands (forgot from where)

I have a Chinook II. YMMV but I do like the contour of Chinook II more. And II has more clip adjustments. Even if you live in Canada it's still a better choice to order from a reliable US online dealer such as Newgraham like I did. I live in Regina, SK.;) If you do so don't forget to ask newgraham to fasten the pivot to avoid those custom bullies. Good luck.

I own both and perfer the Chinook I versus the II. The reasons why are simply my own prefernces, I've found nothing to dislike about the C-I. The blade was a tad bit hard to open at first, but that lessened over time. The C-1 lacks the dual side holes for the pocketclip. Since they've come and gone, I've gotten three of them (still looking for that elusive S30V blade version). It's my preffered knife for hiking, camping, etc. Hope this helps.

s30v is not 440v. 440v's new designation is cpm s60v

thanks for the information yoda, what did you use for a referance? What was the previous name of s30v? Like I said before, I wasn't saying S30V=440V just that I had heard a rumor to that effect that I hadn't been able to substantiate. Thanks again for the information sir.

I don't have a picture, but you can see them both on the spyderco website....I will ask the wife if she can find the camera, and I will try to get a shot up for you in the next few days. I haven't been able to post pics on here before, but if other people can do it then I should be able to figure it out.

Thanks again, yes, i've seen them on the website, but was hoping a few people here had some personal photos and in hand pics. I've posted photos here before. Upload the photos to a site like photobucket, then copy/paste the image url i believe.

Chinook advice?

Broil the filets skin side down on the grill with salt, pepper, butter and some lemon slices on top.

I had a chinook1 for a little while, and I was not at all a fan of the grind. In my opinion, it would have been much better with a higher grind like on the II. That said, it was BEEFY.

I have both and to me they are almost the same knife.Different grips and blade style. Both are sweet knives, can't go wrong with either.

This is actually the Chinook III. It has a full flat grind.
