Well, I'm trying really, really hard to resist the urge to order a Chinook online with my credit card as I type this. (It's actually a matter of WHEN rather than IF at this point, to be honest...) I have no stout lockbacks (read: steel and G-10 vs. FRN) in my collection, and this one sure looks like the mother of all lockbacks to me! Good job.
Also, during my browsing at various online purveyors of fine blades, I've been seeing the Gunting a lot and I must say that it is growing on me almost as much as the Chinook (which I hated when I first saw) has... (great, now two more knives to expend money on
)
However, my one major beef with the Gunting is the clip. A) it is silver, and B) it is atrocious in terms of shape and excessive size (and it's silver!). I mean, it looks like someone bolted a measuring spoon to the side of the knife for crying out loud. Was there any practical rationale for deviating from a standard Spydie clip on this model, or was it just an attempt to do something different and cool with the clip?
Regardless of the answer, my question then becomes this: If/when that if I get me one of these, can I order a black clip of a sane and proper size (maybe even with the yellow spyder like my Calypso Jr.!) and screw it on, or are the holes drilled differently? The hole layout looks pretty standard in the scans I've seen.
PM
D'Oh! I just found the answer at the Knifecenter:
"The front of the handle and back of the clip feature divots/indentations for Indexing for controlled rotation of the knife during martial arts applications."
Still hate the clip though. Personally, I can control the rotation all of my knives from forward to reverse grip just fine with the standard clips, and I don't have any martial applications for the knife anyway...
