Just got this, it's new in the box, beefy, strong, sharp and to my surprise, has vertical blade play.

I thought the Chinook was the bank vault - lead pipe - solid rock?

Is this common or do I send it back to Golden?

It is normal - a by product of building a lockback to over 200# per inch lock strength.

Do a search in this forum and you will find plenty to read on the subject.

John,

...Yup, as mentioned before, a little blade-play with the Chinook is totally normal. I've had 3 of 'em, and all 3 had some minor "blade-play", but I still found that there was no problem with their lock-up, and I trust 'em with MY fingers 100%.

...Now, if that SS PE Delica would find its' way back to me, quickly...:D.

PS...If you find that you don't like your new Chinook, maybe I can find something I have to trade you for it...:D.

Carlos, I did search first, both here and at Spyderco.com, but did not find much about the specific issue, thats why I posted.

Thanks guys for the information. I understand now.

Just knowing that other Chinooks have it makes me feel better.

Dann, You'll get your hands on that piece by Wednesday or I'm selling my stock in Fedex!

John

My chinook also have very minor blade play, minor enough that I don't notice. And yes, this thing locks like a bank vault.

I miss my Chinook. I should've brought it with me on vacation.

My BM722 is just not as fun to show people!:)
