Chinook for lefties?

Kevin. It would be a difficult change over as the liner has to be tapped which is difficult to do with the blade in the way.

We have plans to design an ambi clip in the near future. If possible, ambi and tip up or down.

That's good news, Sal! The ambi Chinook is sure to be a hit with both southpaws like myself and "regular" folks (some of whom have already realized the advantages of having a folder available to your less able hand).

Sal, any idea on the time frame for the movable clip Chinooks? I can't wait to get my hands on one, or should I say left hand on one

Tip up/tip down and ambi.! About 6 months? Possibly a Blade Show release?

Why would Spyderco release this version if plans to update the model are already in the works? Wouldn't it be best to wait and put all the money into releasing one superior models rather then "transitional" models so close together? I can see updating a model a year or two after release based on reviews or found problems, but it seems odd to be planning improvements already. Why not hold off and get more options later on? E

Hi Afee. Interesting question. We've been working on this model for some 3 years now. My requirement for lock reliability and strength became a real problem to production. Many dollars lost, many headaches. Once we were finally able to produce the model to the required standard, we did. The model was build to the original design.

We know that there are always "glitches" with a new model, so changes are inevitable. Now that James is using the piece, even more refinements become apparent.

We didn't want to tool up for the "dedicated" clip (read expensive) until we knew exactly what we wanted.

We did put out a good knife. But we believe that all models can be improved. Even if the basic pattern is good, with time, as technology, materials and needs change, models refine or pass away.

If we wait to offer a pattern until we think it's perfectly and ultimately refined, it would never come out.

Hope that helps.
