Am I the only Forumite (Forumonian?) that still loves the Chinook I??? My EDC for a year now and its still sharper than heck with just a few touchups. CPM440v and the old blade configuration seem to be going the way of the dinosaur, sigh... :( ;) :D

...and I was thinking there's something wrong with me for liking more the old Chinook than the updated version... I am also fond of the CPM 440V. Not that the S30V wouldn't be excellent...

No , there's nothing wrong with the CHINOOK I,
this is also my favorite above the CHINOOK II.
I like the bladeshape on CHINOOK I better than on II. ;)
That's why i have a CHINOOK I and not a CHINOOK II.

S30V on blade, but why does my Chinook II have 103v around the top of the blade hole?Is this another type of steel for that area of the blade? Thanks

Cobra45 - the 103v is the serial number for the collectors. You have number 103 and the "v" means it's a variant of some type. At least that is my understanding of the numbering system Spyderco uses.

But the wallpaper photos of the Chinook II at New Graham Knives website show 103V on theirs also and I know Its not the knife they sent me because mine is a combo edge, they show plain edge.

To get the thread back on track, I also prefer the Chinook I on aesthetic grounds. But after owning one for a while, I can certainly appreciate some of the improvements that have been incorporated into the 2nd gen Chinook.

I carry my Chinook I at work with me, and it is probably the most borrowed tool on the job site. The 440V steel holds a wicked edge as long or longer that all of the other steels that I have experienced, and the edge is very tough. I have hit steel with the edge by accident more than once, and the edge does not chip at all. The ergos on this knife are great and the weight is reasuring. The only gripe that I have is the vertical blade play. I plan on getting a Chinook II eventually, but I don't ever see myself encountering a cutting task that the Chinnok I cannot handle.

I have a Chinook I. Great knife, but I like S30V much better. At first I didn't like the Chinook II based on the looks. I think it looks pretty cool now. Going to get one sooner or later.
