I've been saving up for my Chinook, and I'm wondering whether I should get a combo edge or a plain edge.

Any comments on why I should buy either/or?

I am not a fan of serrated or combo edge knives. I would go for the plain edge because it is much easier to keep sharpened. This is only my personal preference there are plenty of serrated and combo edge fans out there.

Combo edges suck.Either plain or serrated, not both. While there are some advantages to serrated,I prefer plain edge blades.

Combo edges generally leave you without enough plain or serrated area to do the job that type of edge excels at. For example, if you're going to slice or chop, serrations don't help. If you cut a lot of fibrous materials, like rope, they do.

If you definitely need serrations sometimes, you're better off carrying a dedicated serrated blade, maybe a Delica or Salt, than compromising the slicing ability of your Chinook.

Ok then.

I figured sharpening would be a heck of a lot easier without them, and you're right - I might not have enough slicing length. Thanks guys :)
