Chinook II Question

Why does the Chinook II have a lockback whereas the original had a compression lock? At first, I thought it was because the pocket clip is ambidextrous, but the ATR is ambidextrously clipped and has a compression lock. Just curious.

The original Chinook was also a lockback.
