Chinook II Suggestions

The Chinook II has made my life boring. I can't find any other production knife that is comparable in terms of its quality and features.

I used to rotate my EDC frequently. Now I almost always carry the Chinook II. :(

How about making this more exciting? Maybe different color / texture / material options for the handle scales? Then I could at least rotate my brown Chinook II, my blue Chinook II, and my grey carbon fiber Chinook II! :)

And how about a black-bladed M2 steel version?

Right now I own 3 of them, and they're all THE SAME!

Gotta make life interesting, after all...

Well, the search for a practical EDC self-defense knife kinda ended for me with the Chinook II.

Now I have time and money (more time than money) for less practical collector's pieces that I wouldn't have looked at before.

I'm lookin forward to the new Chinook with the leaf blade.

Huh? A Chinook with a leaf blade would not be a Chinook. It could be a damned fine lockback with a leaf blade, but the Chinook's most distinguishing feature is the accentuated clip point, allowing for Keating's "back-cut" technique.

Since getting the Chinook 2, my life relative what defensive knife I'll be carrying daily has also gotten very boring. I'm down to two at the moment in folders, the C2 and the new Persian [ also Spyderco ]. Both lockbacks.

It's fast on the draw, will withstand all types of abuse, made from one of the better streels, and can be utilized for general or defensive duties as required.

http://www.folders-r-us.org/full_tests.htm for a hard use review of the Chinook 1. The updated.revised C2 is just that much better at handling anything I can throw at it.

I like the looks of the C2 but it's too big and heavy of a knife IMO. I continue to hope for a mini. But first I want my Yojimbo!

I don't even carry my AFCK anymore, and that's a frickin' AFCK for cryin' out loud.

Every morning, I look at my collection of knives to see which to carry. And it's the Chinook II...every goddamned day! It's like Groundhog Day now!!

(shakes fist at sky) Damn you Spyderco-ooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

You're right, it wouldn't be a Chinook but it would be a helluva work knife to compliment my real Chinook. :p ;)

I agree that the current blade shape is perfect. The only other blade options I would be interested in are a full-serrated version, and alternative blade steels (e.g. M2 or D2). Not that there is any real need for either one - just for variety.

4 Ranges - I hear ya! The AFCK was my all time favorite folder 4" or under. Then the Chinook 2 arrives! All 4 of my AFCK's have gone Bye Bye, so I can get more Chinook 2's. It is now my favorite 4" or under folder and goes with me to work.

As far as a suiggestion - maybe a frame lock would make me happier. That or eliminate the blade rub I get on the 3 Chinooks I have.

Dirk - LOL!! I mean, I think the AFCK's are awesome knives, particularly with the axis lock. But...it ain't a chinook 2.

On a serious note, I do have one suggestion for a minor improvement on the Chinook II: I think it could use some notching on the back of the grip, behind the blade.

When I am choking up on the grip, my thumb ends up entirely on the back of the blade, and the notching on the back of the blade does the job. But if I am holding the knife with a relaxed grip, my thumb rests primarily on the back of the handle, which is slipery, smooth steel.

Anyone else have this experience?

I really like the Chinook II; it's the only knife to ever challenge my Miliatry for EDC carry. I really can't think of any improvements that I would make to it.
