Chinook II............the BIG decision!!

The big decision has already been made as I just placed my order for one, in plain edge, from NGP. The only drawback I've had on getting one of these was the blade play issue's I had with the original Chinook. From what I've read though this does not seem to be an issue. The only thing I could see that would make me even happier with this knife is to have a higher mounted pocket clip as I tend to like concealment over ease of draw. Nevertheless, I have taken the plunge simply due to all the good reports I've read!:D

You will have about 1" of handle sticking out of your pocket with tip-up carry on the Chinook II. A little less if you leave it as shipped (tip-down). Aside from that, it is one of the best values out there- if you get one, you won't be sorry.

I love this knife. For a lockback, mine is very smooth. I have opened and closed mine a lot and still no bladeplay whatsoever. Bladeplay is one of my big pet peeves. I can't stand a knife that has bladeplay.

Art, I can't wait to hear your opinion on it.

*edited to add. If I tried to resist getting one, I would have surely succumbed to Yester5's pictures. I love them.

WOW! Very cool pic Yester. Believe I recall seeing some others in another thread you took.

Dennis......lets just face it, we have the same tastes' when it comes to folders! In fact it was your review that got me interested, seriously interested in a Chinook II.

In truth it will be very unlikely that the CII will replace my edc of a large wood sebbie, but with the endorsement you gave it I simply find it hard to pass up. I do like to carry a "jacket/vest knife" during the cold months so I figure the CII will see some use.:D

You shan't regret it. As I have said in my review: perhaps the finest Spyderco I own at this moment.

Did I mention it cuts great from the spine side of the tip?

Nice pics, Rorschach!

Would you please post two more pics, one of the complete blade from a top (spine) view and one that shows only the tip as large as possible (top view, too). I really would like to see how narrow the blade/tip is but I didn't see any nice "from top" pictures so far!

Thanks,

Connor

Sure, here ya go. I can email you the larger files if you like.
It's not a thin swedge by any measure.

Rorschach,

thanks again for the pics. That tip does look solid for sure.

You know, the more pics you guys post of that knife, the harder it is for me to resist buying it.

It's too late for me: I just changed my special order for an ATR (ordered 7/03) for a combo-edge Chinook II. The best knife in the world does one no good if it's 1000 miles away.

Spyderco's loss is ... Spyderco's gain.:)
