Would using this knife as utlity void the warrenty? Like the civilian?

How would it hold up like this? Any disadvantageS?

The chinook is a heavy use folder/SD knife, not a dedicated weapon like the civvie. Go ahead and use it

I've used mine to cut watermelon. :)

Note: It's not the best knife ever for that task -- the blade is so thick the nice sharp edge stops touching the watermelon partway through and instead acts as a sort of splitting maul/wedge instead. It saved the picnic, though. ;)

The Chinook II can be used for both SD and utility. The Civilian is a specialized design that has little, if any real utility value. The Chinook II could fill either role well.

The Chinook II I had through the passaround was given I believe to some firefighters for REAL heavy use and evaluation. When I got it it was checked out and dressed up by Spyderco, and you couldn't really tell that it wasn't new other than by the fact that the G-10 wasn't quite as aggressive anymore as when it is new. I would call that "hand rubbed" :). It is made for as heavy use as you can put a folder through!

You're right. I think it was James Mattis, though, who said he had a customer use her Civilian to harvest mushrooms. :D

The Manix is a heavy duty utility. The Chinooks are early Manixes with pointy blades.
