Howdy all! Especially to those that live in Northwestern Arkansas. Went out to my local gun range today to run some rounds through my Glock and much to my surprise, they are a new Spyderco dealer! At least it looks that way. Just like Lewis and Clark in Fayetteville, they have the Spyderco display, the folding catalogs to give out, plus they even have some of the kitchen knives! The owner wasn't in, and his wife wasn't sure if they were actual dealers or not, but it sure looks like it. They even had a Chinook in stock! This was the first time that I have had an opportunity to handle this knife.
Wow. This is some folder! I have seen threads where folks have wondered about accidentally triggering the lock release by gripping the knife too hard. I'm here to tell you: DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!!! This knife is NOT going to unlock accidentally. Heck, I had a hard time getting it to close normally! The lock release is shorter than the one on the Delica. And you really have to push it all the way down. This is one tough knife! And after all of the reviews and articles I have read about this knife, I expected it to be bigger than what it is. Don't get me wrong, this is no small knife! But it fits my hand much better than I thought it would.
I know this post is getting a little long, but it excites me to have someone nearby that carries some of my favorite knives. A.G. Russell carries Spyderco, but they have told me that they prefer to carry more of the collectors-type of Spydies. They carry the Endura and Delica, but thats it for the main-stream Spydercos. They carry the Jess Horn, Meercat, Bob Lum Chinese, the Mouse, the Toad, and their exclusive Jess Horn flat ground and the red snap-it.
Sturms gun range not only has the more main-stream Spydercos, but has them at a really good price too. I know I'm not in the minority here when I say that I prefer to handle my knives before I buy them, but sometimes you just have to go with the best price, and that is usually via the internet. They had Delicas at $45 each. The cheapest I have found them online is $41.00 and you still have to figure in shipping. They had two Militarys at $99 each. I have never seen anyone around here carry the Military. They had a plain-edge Merlin, a Spyder-edge Harpy in SS. Four Police models: two SS (one plain-edge, one serrated) and two G-10 (also one plain, one serrated). They had more Spydercos than I usually see at the local gun-shows! They even have their own web-site now. www.sturmsrange.com If you want to check them out, they have a map on their site. Real nice folks!!
And yes, before some of you ask. It has been some time since I have been there.
I've been putting in the overtime at work and my poor Glock and Ruger have been feeling neglected!
Again, sorry for the long post, but this is exciting to me! I went to the big Tulsa gun show in hopes of handling a Chinook and a Gunting and came away dissappointed. And today I got to play with one practically in my back yard! Still no Gunting yet, but I'm going back to talk to Steve (the owner) when he gets back and who knows?
Flinx
Ps: they also carry Columbia River Knives and Tool. Just not as many as the Spydies!
