Finally got to something we're pleased with. Lock strength was sufficient for MBC activity. (200 inch/lbs of lock strength per inch of blade length). Strongest lockback we've ever tested.

Will make one hellova skinning knife. It certainly is a "handful of knife". Solid, strong. Gives the first impression similar to what one felt holding a Buck 110 in the mid 60's.

Looking foreward to production. I'll post a scheduled delivery date when we finsh the plan.

Our new General Manager, Jeff, is determined to meet all scheduled delivery dates in the future.

Here's an old thread about the Chinook that includes pics: www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/000843.html

In that thread, the first few responses to the knife were not favorable. It's probably the kind of design that you either love or hate. Personally, I love it!

What will the handle material be, Sal?

I personally like the design. It's certainly a multipurspose knife. Since it was designed by Keating and is in the MBC line, you know it was meant for fighting, but this would be a heck of a everyday knife. I can actually see this taking away from the Wenger a little bit.(don't stone me for that) The blade has plenty of belly and the smaller one would be a dandy skinner for any game.

What are expected materials? Blade steel?

I assume the name "chinook" comes from the winds that frequent the east side of the Rock Mountains as in Denver and Golden.

The pictures of the Chinook show a large and small version. Which one is going into production and how long is the blade?
Thanks. Dave Jung

Handle material is G10
Two full liners.
VG-10 - 3-3/4" blade (hilt to tip) large version
"Chinook" is the name of a wind normally generated from the north west. Also the name of a type of Salmon.

Will it be ambidextrous (as in reversible clip), or will there be a left handed version?

Leo - At this time, there will have to be a "left hand version". The Chinook uses the Military clip which is not reversible. When we refine the model and ultimately create a dedicated clip (assuming the design is successful), then it will be ambi.

Thanks, Sal.
Personally, I'd be happy either way.

Sal,
Now that the chinooks are ready to ship, have you finalized an ami clip? How about a picture of the production model? Thanks!

Ray - The clip on the first run will not be ambi. Couldn't come up with anything I was satisfied with. sorry.

I believe that James had a pic of the proto somewhere on this forum. Production is very close. slightly larger choil area on the production version and James A. Keatings signature on the blade.

Should be shipping soon. We'll let you know when.

Mr. Mattis, have you placed an order to get some of these fine knives in? If so, would you put my name on the list for a large and a small, Plain Edge?

Thanks You!

There's only one size Chinook that I know of at the moment, though there was a "concept knife" once upon a time that was a bit smaller, but I did call and informally say I wanted a couple of this and a couple of that and a few of the other thing, but they weren't ready to put anything in the computer yet. Too new.
