chinook vs. manix what cha gonna choose???/

Own both.

Manix. Most people response Chinook for SD, but who say Manix can't? Manix is more versatile to encounter different kinds of cutting situation.

Do a search in this forum, there were same question been asked few months ago.

Gotta agree, the Chinook might be better for self-defense, but the Manix is better for more real-world use.

Brain says Manix, heart says Chinook II. The latter has new full flat grind which makes it a bit more usable I guess. Although I wouldn't complain om my Chinook's cutting abilities...

The manix has been out for a while now, wich one is "better"?

I think I'd chose either the Benchmade Rukus or the Benchmade Skirmish.

I would chose either the Benchmade #610 Rukus (4.25 inch blade) or Skirmish #630 (4.3 inch blade). Both of these are large knives like the Manix and Chinook. They have the same type steel but have larger blades/handles and stronger axis or mono locks, IMHO. And the Skirmish has holes in the blade too! However, there is a cost for this increased quality that must be factored into the decision.

Here is the Rukus -

These are all big "hooters" which might not be fun to lug around for EDC.

The Chinook's grind isn't the problem for me, it's the highly-swept trailing point shape of the blade. It puts the tip so high it's hard to bring it to bear in a lot of cutting I did, and especially with the combo-edge version, no straight section of edge, which IMHO limited it's usefulness.

I've been using the chinook II for a couple of months now and haven't had any problems. Had a nice point to belly ratio thats just what I need.

Own/have owned all the variations (Chinook, Chinook II, Manix, MiniManix) and if I had to have only one it would be the Manix. The lower point and thinner grind make it IMHO a better cutting knife for the things that I cut. I also think that the grip is more secure on the Manix, but it does take up more space in the pocket, so that may be a consideration for some.

If cost is no issue..Skirmish!
The Manix is a stronger version of the Endura which is a great knife.
The Chinook II is tougher than Manix with a thicker blade.

I would choose the manix due to the more practical blade shape. The ruckus is a better option than the chinook IMO. The new chinook with a flat grind does seem interesting though.

I own both and you can't go wrong with either of them. However, as an all-around EDC, I'd give the edge to the Manix. The Chinook II was indeed designed for self-defense, but it is still practical for other uses as well.

I would go with the chinook. I own one in plain edge and absolutely love it. It's tough as nails with a really comfortable handle and has great slicing ability with a strong tip.
