Today, I received the Spyderco Chinook (part serrated) that I traded "into" from a fellow BladeForums member, and I have NEVER been this impressed with a folder before!...Not even the 1st time I held a REKAT Sifu!

...Dang, I LOVE this Chinook!..

Now I know what to tell folks when I am asked about a folder that can really "take-it", and not skip a beat. This Chinook is STURDY, and I mean pry-bar STURDY! I can't remember seeing a folder made this well in a long time. And for a blade made out of steel as thick as this is, I have to say that this blade is "scary" sharp, and cuts VERY WELL (and I have the Bandaid on my thumb to prove it!..)

Now, onto the question: Does anyone (Sal?) know if there is a "left-handed" pocket clip available that I can install on the "Lefty" side of the scales? (I've noticed that due to the curve of the pocket-clip, that I can't simply move that one to the other side.).

Wow! After reading your praises of the Sifu, this is a strong recommendation for the Chinook! Maybe I need to reconsider my plan to purchase a Lil Temperance next :)

Sorry glockman, no lefty clip set-up. This issue has been covered many times.

An outstanding folder, agreed. One of my desires has been to see about getting a Chinook "customized" with green canvas micarta and maybe Ti bolsers. I am waiting to see if Spyderco moves the blade steel to VG-10 as has been discussed.

IIRC, in a previous thread, when someone used the word "tank" to describe the Chinook, another forumite called the Chinook an "aircraft carrier". 'Nuff said.

Glockman,

I couldn't agree more. When I first got my combo edge Chinook I had exactly the same reaction. Very well built and strong as a tank. A very nice knife.

Congrats dude! :D The Chinook is solid and it lives up to my expectation by having the strongest lock!!

My "dream knife" used to be a double-action REKAT Sifu. Now my "dream knife" is a Chinook with a 5 inch blade. THAT would make this perfect knife PERFECT.:).

A 5 inch Chinook? Dude, you'd need a backpack to carry it!
Seriously though, what do you think of the weight/heft of this folder?

Wouter

Definitely one of my favorites. I don't really agree with the people that think it's too heavy and cumbersome. I wanted a huge hefty cutting machine and I got it in the Chinook.

Mr Blonde,

I really don't think that the Chinook weighs all THAT much, especially when you look at how well it's built. In-fact, it feels GREAT in my hand, and I really don't notice it all that much clipped inside my pocket.

...And a Chinook with a 5 inch blade...I WANT ONE!!, and while we're at it, let's make the pocket-clip ambidextrious ("user changeable").:).

Anymore, I don't give a rats ass about production knives. Although, when I received my Chinook from forumite "Stomper", I was really taken back.

This is probably the finest Spyderco Heavy Duty I know of. The fit and finish are superb, the overall look of the beast is scary yet functional. I really, really like it!!!

Although, Glockman99 does have a point, a longer, double action Chinook would rule.

Just my two cents worth you all.

Yeah, the Chinook is definitely a classic. I was also very impressed the first time I held one. It made other folders seem like mere toys.

For some strange reason, mine has clip screw holes drilled in the left liner as well as the right. The holes don't go through the G-10 though, so you can't see them unless you remove the blade.

Flinx,

Thanks for the links. I've sent an email to "South-Paw knives".:).

Crap...I've become so enamored by my new serrated-edge Chinook, that I have just now put one of my 2 REKAT Sifu up for trade for a plain-edge Chinook!.:D.:D.

Glad to be of service Glockman. Be sure to let us know how it turns out. :D

Flinx

Flinx,

Well, as it turns out, the guy from "South-Paw knives" emailed me back to say that he can't do anything with knife that is riveted together.:(. The Chinook is riveted together...
