I'm looking at purchasing a chinook soon. I've read about it in magazines and specs on the net, but I haven't actually held one in my hand before because there isn't a retailer in my area that has one in stock. Therefore, I would like to heard some opinions/comments on it from people who've seen it or own one. Like, how it is as a EDC, the size, handle, etc.....
Thanks a lot guys

I own a pair of Chinooks (plain-edge, and serrated), and they are excellent knives...In-fact, the Chinook is MY favorite Spydie! They are fairly large (thick and wide) and heavy, but they carry very well in the front pocket of MY Levi jeans. Also, they feel very good and SOLID in the hand, with the thick G-10 scales (with dual stainless liners).

Buy one (or two), and I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.

Everytime I get back to the mindset that I can live without the Chinook you go and tell everyone that they're great!

Must keep away from debit card...must keep away from debit card...

Got one in a trade and I love it. Weight is not a problem in the front pocket of pants, jeans, and even shorts as long as the pocket is the right kind (ie. not a slash pocket). Love the way the knife looks and feels.

...No worries. If you don't end-up buying a Chinook, that'll only mean that there are more of 'em for ME.:D.

Hey thanks a lot guys,
I think I will go ahead and start saving for it now.
My main concern really was the size and weight but it looks like it isn't a problem.

Size and weight are highly personal. James Keating goes around with a huge Bowie, so anything else is small to him. If you are used to carrying a super lightweight knife, the Chinook will seem outsized. As with many things, you get used to it.

I prefer a heavier weight knife. Recently bought an MT LCC that other folks dissed due to it's weight. But I like it.

The Chinook has a very useful blade shape and can take a licking. It's also made very well and feels very "capable" in the hand.

I live in an area where the Chinook has a limited usefulness due to its blade length of over 3", but when I do carry it, I find it rides most comfortably inside my waistband just behind my right hip joint. The knife itself is one tank of a knife, durable as all getout and solid as an M1A1 Abrams tank. The knife was designed by James Keating as part of Spyderco's Martial Bladecraft line and it shows, mostly in the sharply concave false edge and very sharp point leaving a Bowie like blade that is great in the "Reverse Cut" technique that he recommends.
