Well I had my heart set on the Karambit from Spyderco, but since I cant get ahold of one around here, I am thinking about going with the Spyderco Chinook for MBC training. My trainer (a former Navy Seal) uses the Karambit and is a huge advocate of it but I asked him about the Chinook and he says that it is arguably the BEST SD/MBC blade on the market.

Anyone got any experience with it or have any good stories about the Chinook?

Have one love it. I thought it would be bulkier and heftier reading about it before I ordered it, but to me there is no sense of this knife being a clunker. I t is just sturdy and solid with a great lock up. It fits into the hand really nice and seems to want to be used in a reverse grip just as much as forward. I would really rather have my chinook than any style of kerambit.

how does the chinook carry? i was worried about it being too bulky to carry with some clothes... i hear this is one of the toughest spyderco MBC rated knives that is available!!!! true?

Meshmdz this is just me, but when you hold or carry this knife you dont think "this is big" you think "this is sturdy", As far as carry It never crossed my mind once that it had limitations in that respect. When you lock it open it gives you that same satisfying feeling that closing a door on a BMW gives you. It isn't a big knife, it is a strong knife.

holier, damn man, you should be a spyderco rep salesman... that just sounded sooooo good. i cant wait to feel one in my hands.

Thanks but there alot better people to give you opinions here. I hope they do. If you buy that knife you wont be disapointed. Nice to meet you.

meshmdz - Personally I think the Chinook would be the better choice as it could serve double duty for daily utility better than the karambit. That said, if you are really set on getting a karambit (too), there are plenty of online stores that have it in stock. Unless of course the "cant get ahold of one around here" was refering to physically checking one out before buying.

I'm sure there are others, but that was just a quick check of the favorites folder. :D

yea trout thats what i meant.. haha. i hate i repeat HATE buying shit online... i like to get it in my hand and check it out before forking out cash for a buy. you know what i mean?

I think a Chinook is body, shoulders, and head above a Chinese SKS...or even an AK-47.:D ( and yes I realize I'm comparing knives to guns)
