Chip off the old Block..........with better sheaths......

Fello Forumites,
Lemme tell you about a new friend I made this year at BLADESHOW. His name is Bob Baily, and he is Darrel Ralph's son. We try not to hold that against him

Well, Bob had a fixed blade with him at the show that showed alot of promise. My father thought so much of it, that he IMMEDIATLEY snatched it up. This is a major statement,...because Dad NEVER buys knives, much less a custom piece. He really liked it, and is planning on using it this hunting season on some trips when he might need a little larger blade. Anyway....

Bob came out to the 'Farm' with some of us after BLADESHOW, and we had some time to talk knives...and his plans for the future. He really likes working with Kydex, and his sheaths show it. He also said he really like fixed blades. Well, he probally got more 'input' than he wanted...but he listened to my Dad, Ethan Becker, Anthony Lombardo, Kit Carson, Scott Evans for Edgeworks and all the rest for 2 days. He asked alot of questions.....threw alot of ideas on the table. Tested knives...his and others. You could watch him absorbing info like a sponge.

I was convinced we had ruined him....

Well, it appears that he has survived, and his work is really getting good! His sheath work is awesome. Without a doubt...he is developing his own distinct style....and I like it.

I guess I'm interested in Bob and his work, because I'm watching him come into the knife biz under the shadow of his FAMOUS father. I can relate to that. But Bob is handling it right, blazing his own trail, but embracing the guidance and using the experience of his father and his father's peers. Its a tough road, but VERY satisfying.

Take a minute and follow this link to Bob's work. I think he is on the right track.....

Keep up the good work Bob.

LOL Seriously, I met Bob for the first time at Blade 2000 and saw the fighter he had on the table then. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the piece. Fast forward to the S.E. Custom Knife Show a few weeks ago here in Winston-Salem. Bob came with Darrel and brought a smaller, lower profile fighter with him. I was even more impressed with this one as it was more my preference to a comfortable carry fixed blade. And the sheath that came with it was also very well executed. Add to that, I got my Arclight from Darrel at the show and Bob was the one who makes all the sheaths for that neck knife. Very nicely done! If Bob sticks with it and continues to improve, he has a future as a knifemaker and sheathmaker. Darrel told me that Bob doesn't like it when folks ask if the sheath for his fighter was made by Blade-Tech

Actually, that is a big compliment!
