A picture of my Becker BK9 a decent chip in blade and minor small ones from use on a deer. Caused from leg bone. Can that be fixed or worth contacting Kabar? Thanks

Ouch...that's a big chip! That's gonna take a LOT of metal removal to bring that edge back. I can't imagine a deer leg bone resulting in damage like that though...

Wow. I wouldn’t believe a deer bone caused that. Not with that blade steel.

If that’s truly the case, seems like bad heat treat. I’ve beat the absolute hell out of a few Beckers and never had one chip like that.

I’m telling you that’s the cause of the chips big and small. He was trying to break thru it when those happened

I agree. But I witnessed it he hacked thru the leg and when he finished we both just looked at the damage to the blade in amazement

I'd contact Kabar... but, after seeing it, I stand by my previous suggestion of turning it into a mini-BK6

That being the case, only thing I can think is bad heat treat. Get with Ka-Bar and they’ll make it right. They have fantastic customer service and stand behind their knives 100%.

If I were you, that same leg bone would be the first thing I tested the replacement on. That shouldn’t happen.

Could be reshaped, but what if that ugly heat treat goes all the way through? A couple good whacks with your newly modded knife and you might be disappointed.

Yep! Like the others above said contact KaBar. If a Deer bone did that I would think the poor Deer must of had had a steel pin in his leg or that's some defective steel for sure :D

Wild. Was he chopping it *against* something?
If not, call Ka-Bar.

But why chop leg bones anyway?? With a proper (i.e. *small*) hunting knife, you can quickly take apart the leg joints without force or mess, and then bone out in seconds. Oh wait, was it alive and he was dispatching it manly-man style in spear season? :p
