Chipped Blade Edge, Best Next Steps

Needless to say, nothing is more disappointing than getting a "new" knife in the mail only to find it has issues. My TAD slicer came in, and what was billed as a "resharpened edge" due to being dull was in fact an edge that was mildly chipped and then resharpened to straighten it out. The seller is claiming that the knife was merely resharpened...and that the edge is not flawed in anyway. I have included a couple of pics as something doesn't look exactly right...

Anyway, I can send the knife back, but I want really rather keep it as I planned on it being a user. That being said, I am wondering what y'all would suggest me doing? Send it back to the ranch and have it corrected? Just use it? Or say screw it and return it.

Thanks for the input.

Hard to tell for sure in the pics but it looks like there are some flat spots, nothing a good sharpening can't fix.

I recently received a hinderer Firetac with many dull spots on the blade. I used a spyderco sharpmaker and got the edge back too razor sharp in no time at all.

hard to judge how bad the damage is by photos. At any rate if the seller resharpened it doesn't seem like they did a very good job of it.
Disappointing that what he's telling you doesn't seem to match what the knife blade is telling you.

How does it cut? doesn't seem like a problem if it's going to be used since it should go away with sharpening. If it doesn't cut well now you might want to sharpen first off anyway.

trust me you don't want that thing... just look at it... that being said ill be happy to take that nightmare off your hands :D jk

Honestly now, just sharpen her up and enjoy it!!! If its meant to be a true user then you'll probably end up making your own beauty marks in it.

Thanks guys, I feel a lot better knowing that it can fixed. It cuts just fine, just looks a little off. I wanted to get your thoughts since y'all have seen a more blades than I have. Looks like she is now part of the family...

To me it looks like it may just be rolled over a little bit. Try straightening it out on a ceramic rod or on a long screwdriver in a "stropping" motion. (away from cutting edge) If that doesn't work, sharpen her up!

I'd try sharpening it myself. If I couldn't get perfect myself id send it back to the ranch for Rick to resharpen. It is cheap as hell to do and Rick puts a scary sharp edge on them. I had him do a 24 for me a year or two ago and it was violently sharp when I got it back. I think he sharpened it the day after it arrived at the ranch and rob got it in the mail that same day. I couldn't believe it! Anyway good luck that's a sweet knife!!!

I worked everything out with the seller. Thanks again for the input, and it looks like I am going to use it "as is" and send it back to the ranch for a proper sharpening in the future. Here are a few more inspiring pics...

thanks, it is a little bronze sculpture that I picked up at a flea market...sad that my subconscious told me to buy it for posing knives and watches for glamour shots...

Haha!! That's funny! At least we know your head is right!! Who wants something to hold books up... I was thinking a book end... Watch and knife holder much better :D

Good call on keeping the blade. Those TAD Hinderers are freaking fantastic! It stinks that the seller "forgot" to mention the blade imperfections, but as stated earlier, a little use and a real sharpening and you won't even remember it was there.

It's all been said but I will echo, good call on keeping it and using it. I use a Sharpmaker and a Wicked Edge System.
One trip back to the Ranch and about $15 later you will have a shaving sharp perfect edge back and ready to go.
