So, the other day I posted that I was cutting up some beef ribs. Well, I ended up chipping the blade.

WWBBFD? (What Would Buck Brothers Forever Do?)

In other words, what Lansky grit and angle would you use to take these pups out of S30V?

Not too bad Goose.....I would use a coarse diamond Lansky stone at 25 .....
then take her down to 20....then go to medium...I don't go any finer on S30V.
Try staying away from the bone and let 'em thaw out first:D

Wow...That suck's brother goose!!!! However, they are just cosmetic at this point I'd just leave those be if it were mine. They will get sharpened out with usage in time. But, if they are bothering you have fun sharpening them out.

WOW Goose!

Looks like you cut a grade 8 bolt in half :D

They dont look too bad to me either. I havent used mine enough to sharpen it yet, so I would use the sharpie and lansky trick to get it right. My guess would be the slot for 25???? Medium as well here ;)
OR I know this place in Idaho that would put a beautiful edge on it again ;)

Cutting up beef ribs :confused::confused:

Wonder where the chips went??:eek:

Wonder why it chipped??

Thanks gents! Funny...I was thinking about that S30V in my gut...hope it has some padding around it when it comes out...iffn ya know what I mean ;)

I am thinking it may actually have happened when I hit the plate. I wasn't using a cutting board...and while I know I hit bone with it, I've done that before. But I recall a hard hit on the plate when I cut through once the other day. Hard enough to check and see if I cracked or chipped the plate

Maybe I'll see how it wears uut in time like John and Jim said...the rest of the blade is still pretty sharp. But now that EEEEEEEEEEE mentioned it, I should get some Lansky diamonds. I have a "fine" but can't find it.

Belt sander? LOL. I can't even use a planer straight. Glad that Jesus is my carpenter, cuz I suck.

No Lansky diamonds!!! Don't bother looking for that fine diamond hone.

If yas have S30V, you definitely gonna need diamonds.

I have had an AG vanguard laying here on the desk for a week, procrastinating about putting the diamonds to it. Me and sharpening S30V don't get along so good.

Good luck on the chips ...:D

I did that Goose on a 119 ,420 steel when I cut through the
sturnem,,,Rib's on a deer.I got it out with STONES>>>>>>>>>>>>>
But like Larry said your's is s30v.So I am not much help.
Anyway I got to leave to go Turkey hunting in the morning.
Will check back in Monday.Good luck Goose.
Hawkeye
BTW Decaff has a jar for that bug.LOL

Hey I've sharpenen my s30v with stones with no problem. I also have sharpened with sand paper on my s30v . My AG Vangaurd that I just recent stripped I used sand paper then finished it off with a stone. I hate the grind lines onthe edges of new knives that are users. Heres what I ended up with.

I have had S30V chip like that from a number of makers. I sorta expect it now. Fine nicks like that can usually be taken out with a ceramic rod. I have found that once S30V is resharpened it very rarely (less often than many steels) nicks or chips as when it is new with a factory edge. You can't go wrong with a BOSS HT, it must be the nature of the steel IMO.

I think that's belt sander and a professional eye territory.
I have to agree with this Goose. This may be the one you just send back to Buck and have them do it professionally. Or, you can send it to me and I can provide a free six month evaluation! :D

I am also a sand paper guy and I remove the grind lines also. After 300 and 400 grit sand paper, I polish the blade on a polishing wheel first with black grit then white grit for the final.
