ARGH!

This afternoon I managed to get a tiny chip right in the middle of the blade on my 520! It's REALLY REALLY bugging me!

Can Benchmade somehow get rid of the chip? Like sharpen the blade, so it gets rid of the chip?

The chip is very tiny, so maybe this can be easily done?

I love this knife, but this chip is REALLY bugging me!

Thanks!

Or you can do it youself on a coarse hone

Don't have one.. Or any other sharpening tools.

I'm basically dependent on Benchmade to help out... I just e-mailed them.

I guess I was hoping for someone to say "They can do it. It'll be like new!".

*sigh*

Ajnova, how did the chip happen?

umm i'm embarrassed to say....... it was *REALLY* stupid... I also found out my Spyderco Native has a tiny chip as well - another company to call tomorrow....

let's just say... two knives opened, one in each hand, and Star Wars Lightsaber duel music........

That sounds familiar... I once threw a Kabar Combat Knife and a Gerber folder into a log (straight, hard flick/throws, not the silly spinning stuff). Unfortunately, I hit the Kabar with the Gerber - MASSIVE chips, hours working them out on a coarse stone and resharpening them...

Moral of the story - only have one knife in hand at any time... :D

ugh  :grumpy: :(

I can't believe I was so stupid! ugh

So worried about how they'll come out of warranty..... Good as new - or also be able to tell there was a chip.

Anyone have any kind of experience in fixing small chips? As how it turned out? I'm feeling really down about this.... :( I really love my 520.... *sigh*

Depending on how small, they'll hone out and you'll never know it was there.

Except for your bruised ego and conscience.

I hereby sentence you to watching that movie floating around the 'net of the little kid playing at lightsabres... ONE HUNDRED TIMES.

If the chips really are very small, you can get the guys over at Cutter's Corner to take them out for you.

I actually had Tony take out a chip near the point on my Gen.1 SnG. Took him a while, but he eventually got it done. And don't worry, since he holds the blade by hand, you can be assured that he won't run the wheel/knife so hot that it destroys the temper of the blade. He doesn't get anywhere near that.

Anjova, I just got a 520 a few weeks back and mine did the same thing. I wrote a review of the 520 about 1-2 months ago and ended up sending the knife in for repair because it would close if the last 1" of the tips spine had any pressure against it. I got back what I believe to be a new 520. That's really weird that we both got a small chip right in the middle of the blade. You gotta love that blade style though. Cuts with fury! :)

I called Benchmade this afternoon... They said "No problem, send it in"

I'll be sending it in tomorrow.

Hopefully it'll be like new!
